The Hatching

Pansiral stood nervously on the sands, fidgiting with his white Candidate's robe.  This was the first time that he'd worn this.  It might also be the last or it might be first in a long line of hatchings, standing on the sands and wearing this robe.  "Who knows, I might Impress," He whispered to himeself.  "I have been around dragons a while."

The eggs began to rock, and Pansiral's attention was drawn to the large, healthy brown that emerged from the egg.  It walked quickly past him to Garon, and the Impression was made in a heartbeat.

He sighed deeply, watching as two blues hatched out, one on the right side of the eggs and the other on the left.  One made a beeline for Velrik.  Before the second blue could choose, a green hatched out.  She shoved the blue slightly, as though encouraging him to choose, then headed straight for Tilmat.  The second blue moved past Pansiral once again to Talysen, and the Impression was made.

Pansiral then looked up at Litayth, wondering if she had clutched a dragonet for him, or if her children simply weren't meant to Impress him.  Maybe he would Impress later...

Another egg began to rock, and Pansiral looked on as Kollinar shouted encouragement to the bronze.  Of course, Pansiral thought, the little bronze stumbled right over to the boy.  Who else would he of chosen?

A green hatched out and headed for the group of girls.  Although Pansiral was happy to see that a girl was finally Impressing, he would of preferred to have the little green than nothing.  Segrana called out to the little dragon to take her time, for the green's wings were pumping up and down, as though she was trying to make it to the girls faster.

Of course, that meant that she'd Impressed the little green, and Pansiral let out an angry sigh, causing a few of the Candidates to glare at him.  A blue dragonet then stumbled over to Celeste, and a green went to Petapipa.

After that the golden egg began to rock, and Pansiral found himself not really interested in where the gold went.  After all, golds didn't Impress boys, did they?  However, he recognized that he was sulking, and turned to watch the queen dragonet choose Qianel.

While everyone was watching the queen, Pansiral turned back to watch a blue, green, and brown break from their eggs.  The blue went to Lekoum, thebrown went to Tahre, the green to Azrae.

That left him and the last egg.  Litayth rose from where she had been laying all through the hatching, and placed herself between the smallish rocking egg and Pansiral.
You realize this is my last egg, don't you? She asked.  Pansiral nodded, unable to say a word.  Good.  Take care of him.

She lifted her wing to reveal a small, brightly shining bronze dragon.  Locking eyes with Pansiral, the young bronze said I am Lokiath, N'ral!  And I am so hungry, too!

"Lokiath!" N'ral yelled, no longer Pansiral.  That part of him was gone forever.  He was now N'ral, and his bronze dragon Lokiath would always be there for him.
