Mountains

Arbud Mountain - Aaboo mountain. Located in Raajsthaan. Padm Puraan, p 344, says that Arbud is Himaalaya's son; and Padm Puraan, p 112 says that Brahmaa Jee is known here as Vashishth.

Chitrakoot - Mentioned in Raamaayan. Raam, Lakshman and Seetaa stayed here for some time while in exile. Tulasee Daas Jee had Raam's Darshan here only with the help of Hanumaan Jee.

Govardhan Parvat - Mentioned in Bhaagvat Puraan. (1) Located near Mathuraa. Krishn lifted it up on His left pinkie finger for seven days and seven nights continuously when Indra rained heavily for 7 days and 7 nights because Brij people didn't worship Indra and worshipped Govardhan Parvat on Krishn's saying. (2) [Bhavishya Puraan, 3/28] Dhruv did his Tapasyaa here for six months at the age of five on the advice of Naarad Jee.

Gridhrakoot Parvat - The mountain where Buddha converted the Magadh King Bimbsaar. He delivered many sermons here.

Hemkoot Parvat - Mentioned in Padm Puraan, Paataal Khand - Shatrughn hears the story of Sumad here. Raam's Ashwamedh Yagya horse also comes here

Himaalaya Parvat - Located in the north of Bhaarat Varsh. Mentioned in Raamaayan - Hanumaan brought Sanjeevanee herb from here only;

Hindookush Parvat - Name of a mountain range in Afagaanistaan, on the slopes of which, it is believed, that the Aaryans traveled to Saptsindhu region.

Kailaash Parvat - A peak in Himaalaya in north of Maansarovar Lake, now in Tibbat. Here lives god Shiv with his consort Paarvatee Jee.

Maalyavaan Parvat - Its reference comes in Raamaayan where Raam passed four months after being friend of Sugreev, and before Hanumaan went to Lankaa in search of Seetaa Jee.

Mahendra Parvat - It is situated in Orissa. Here lives Parashuraam Jee.

Malaya Parvat - A mountain range. Here grow sandalwood trees in abundance.

Mandar Parvat (Mandaraachal) - It is a mythical Parvat which was used by Devtaa and Daitya as a churning rod to churn the ocean (Ksheer Saagar). It is said to be 11,000 Yojan high, and 11,000 deep under the ground.

Maryaadaa Parvat - Its reference comes in Padm Puraan, 1/18 in the context of Raam's visit to Pushkar. It is located in Pushkar.

Meru Parvat     see     Sumeru Parvat

Nandeeshwar Hills - Where Nand Raaya, the foster father of Krishn, lived.

Neelaachal   see    Neelgiri Hills

Neelgiri Hills - Mentioned in Padm Puraan, 4/4. Present Neelgiri hills are at the border of Keral and Tamilnaadu states. The famous Ooty hill station is in Neelgiri. But this description of Neelgiri in Padm Puraan doesn't suit this actual location, because the horse was going eastward (not the south or southwest), besides there is no Gangaa Saagar Teerth here in south. Even on 4/5  page it is clearly given that the king arrived at the place where Gangaa meets sea, so it seems that they were near Jagannaath Puree because that area is also called Puroshottam Teerth, and in this story also the king is going to worship Purushottam.

Raivat Mountain - Giranaar mountain. Mentioned in Bhaagvat Puraan. Arjun kidnapped Subhadraa from here.

Ratn Giri - In Udeesaa, 70 km from Cuttack

Rishyamook Parvat - Mentioned in Raamaayan. Rishyamook is the name and Parvat means mountain. Here lived Sugreev with his ministers - Hanumaan etc. Raam and Lakshman met him here only. Hanumaan brought them here and helped them to extend friendship with Sugreev.

Sumeru Parvat - Indra lives here. Sumeru mountain has four mountains around it - Mandar Parvat, Gandhmaadan Parvat, Vipul Parvat and Supaarshwa Parvat. These four mountains jointly are called Vishkambh Parvat.
(Bhavishya Puraan, p 613)

Suvail Parvat - Mentioned in Tulasee's Maanas and Padm Puraan (Paataal Khand). Located in Lankaa. Raam made the arrangements for His army to stay on this Parvat.

Trikoot Parvat - Mentioned in Tulasee's Maanas and Raamaayan. Located in the south of Bhaarat Varsh, in the midst of the sea. Vishwakarmaa built Lankaa Puree on this Parvat for the three Daitya - Maalee, Sumaalee and Maalyavaan. Later Kuber got it and later Raavan got it from Kuber. It existed in Salt Sea and Lankaa was on this Parvat

Udayagiri (see also Udayagiri - The eastern mountain. In Udeesaa, 5 km before Ratn Giri.

Venkat - Name of the sacred hill in Tirupati.

Vindhyaachal Parvat - Agastya Muni asked him to lie down so that he could go to south crossing it. He lay down, Agastya Jee crossed it and told him to be like that until he comes back, but he has not come back since, and the Parvat is still lying down.

Vishkambh Parvat (see also Vishkambh) - Vishkambh means auxiliary (Sahaayak). Sumeru mountain has four mountains around it - Mandar Parvat, Gandhmaadan Parvat, Vipul Parvat and Supaarshwa Parvat. These four mountains jointly are called Vishkambh Parvat.
[Bhavishya Puraan, p 613]
