Talbot Valley, St Andrews

This picturesque valley consists of woodland, fields, and heritage land. A few good examples of old Guernsey architecture can be found, such as this water wheel just off the main road.

Ostrich farming Something else to see are these two residents of the valley. A local Ostrich farming business started and unfortunately finished a few years ago. These are probably the remaining livestock.
This waterpump is sited at the bottom of Rue des Monnaies, St Andrews, and more or less marks the eastern end of Talbot Valley. Waterpumps like this can still be seen throughout the island, although they are not as well-used as they used to be! A waterpump

The Little Chapel

The Little Chapel

This tiny place of worship was built by a monk before (and continued after) the 2nd world war. The walls are covered with sea-shells and bits of china donated by the public.

One Guernsey tradition which is still booming is the practice of selling produce at the roadside. Most stalls work on a trust basis - to buy flowers, potatoes, strawberries, etc. just leave the appropriate money in the tin. Sadly, these days some security measures are required - even TV cameras for the most popular stalls! Road-side stall selling flowers
G-JOEY, or "Joey, the little yellow plane" , an Aurigny Airways Trislander. Guernsey airport has links to a few major UK airports and some European such as Schipol. It is popular with private aircraft, and has good facilities and engineers. The photo shows a Trislander aircraft as used between Guernsey, Alderney, and Jersey. Children's books have been written about G-JOEY, "The little yellow plane".
St Saviour's Reservoir

This is the island's main reservoir. The dam has a public walkway along it's length (I was roughly half way along to take this shot), and the woodland around the edge is a nature reserve, making for some pleasant walking country.

Reservoir Dam Here you can see the dam itself and the public walkway. Out of sight immediately below are the main water processing buildings. The reservoir serves the major water needs of the island. Other, much smaller, reservoirs are scattered around Guernsey. Many are old granite quarries which have been converted.
