- Rat spleen - Used in Shrinking Solution
- Re’em blood - Gives the drinker immense strength, but owing the rarity of the Re’em, it is extremely difficult to procure.
- Romanian Longhorn horn (powdered) - Highly valuable potion ingredients classified as Class B Tradeable Materials.
- Runespoor eggs - These eggs come from the mouth of a runespoor. They are highly valued for their use in potions to stimulate mental agility.

- Salamander Blood - Salamanders, called “fiery flying serpents” in Christianity, possess the magical ability to resist fire, and were thought to be able to protect others against the fires of Hell. Their blood can be used to protect humans from fires and has curative and restorative properties. Salamander blood is also used in the concoction of Strengthening Solutions.
- Salamander eggs - Mentioned at the apothecary’s in Diagon Alley. See Salamander Blood
- Scarab beetles - Found in South America and Egypt, it was sacred to the ancient Egyptians who regarded it as a symbol of the sun god Ra. It is also a symbol of new life and resurrection. Used in Wit-Sharpening Potion.
- Sea Wormwood - A bitter plant native to the salt marshes of the British Isles often used to cure fevers.
- Shrinking Solution - Effects are self-explanatory. It is made of chopped daisy roots, skinned shrivelfig, sliced caterpillar, one rat spleen, a dash of leech juice.
- Shrivelfig - A plant that needs to be skinned to be used. It is also called the Abyssinian Shrivelfig. See Shrinking Solution.
- Skin of Boomslang (shredded) - The boomslang is a rare beast whose skin is used in the preparation of the Polyjuice Potion.
- Sleekeazy’s Hair Potion - Potion that makes a person’s hair smooth and shiny.
- Sneezewort - Also called Achillea ptarmica, sneezewort used to be sniffed to clear the head of a headache.
- Stinksap - The sap of Mimbulus mimbletonia created when the plant is disturbed. Stinky.
- Streeler venom - One of the few substances known to kill Horklumps.
- Strengthening Solution - Upon drinking, the consumer will be able to lift heavy objects.
- Swelling Solution - Does not need to be swallowed to take effect. Anything it touches immediately swells to enormous proportions.
- Syrup of Hellebore - Hellebore is thought to ease headaches when applied to the head or sniffed. Hellebore is also associated with Necromancy. This plant was used as a strong purgative in ancient times. Hellebore is an ingredient in the Draught of Peace.

- Tebo hide - Used to make protective shields and clothing.
U
- Unicorn - A beautiful white, horned horse that resides in the forest of Northern Europe. Unicorns are more likely to allow witches to come near it than wizards. Its hair, blood, and horn all have powerful magical properties, but if a person drinks the blood, he or she will be cursed for life. It is difficult to capture a unicorn as they are extremely swift.
- Unicorn Horns - White at the bottom, black in the middle, and red at the top. These are believed to possess healing abilities; the dust was supposed to protect against diseases and poison and rumored to resurrect the dead. In medieval times, people would have cups made from unicorn horns to detect poison.

- Venemous Tentacula Seeds - Possibly an ingredient in Fred’s and George’s Skiving Snackboxes.
- Veritaserum - Powerful truth serum that takes a full moon cycle to mature. Only a few drops are necessary to make a person spill their most intimate secrets. It could contain jobberknoll feathers.
- Voldemort’s Potion - Bone of the father, unknowingly given, flesh of the servant, willingly given, and blood of the enemy, forcibly taken. It brought Voldemort back to human form.
W
- Wartcap Powder - Causes the skin to produce a crusty exterior.
- Wit-Sharpening Potion - Made from scarab beetles, ginger roots, armadillo bile. It is intended to make the drinker smart and cunning.
