Who Misses WCW?

Best Of 1995: By Matthew Evans (09/11/02)

Wrestler Of The Year: Shawn Michaels

Based on his performance in the Royal Rumble, his match with Diesel at Wrestlemania (which was the best match on the card) and his cracking Summerslam Ladder Match with Razor Ramon, HBK wins this award hands down.

Babyface Of The Year: Hulk Hogan

Hogan got over in a big way in WCW, and was a breath of fresh air for the company. Plus, he was still entertaining and had great feuds with Vader and Ric Flair.

Heel Of The Year: Vader

The long-awaited clash between Vader and Hulk Hogan finally occured in 1995. Vader looked like a genuine threat to Hogan's title. Too bad he got fired later in the year for starting a fight with Paul Orndorff.

Gimmick Of The Year: The Undertaker

Not a spectacular year wrestling-wise for The Undertaker by any stretch of the imagination (he was put in meaningless matches and feuds), but the actual character was as strong and macabre as ever.

Match Of The Year: Shawn Michaels VS Razor Ramon

(Ladder Match, Summerslam 95)

A classic encounter. While a step below their WM X encounter, this was still a great, high-risk effort from both men and definatelt the match of the year.

Card Of The Year: Royal Rumble 1995

While the Rumble itself ran less than an hour, Shawn Michaels made it a night to remember. The rest of the card was decent. While not as good as it could have been, this was still the best of the bunch.

Worst Card Of The Year: King Of The Ring 1995

I was going to give this award to Wrestlemania 11, but KOTR wins it due to the fact that the booking was more appalling and Mabel won the tournament.

Worst Wrestler Of The Year: Mabel

A terrible worker (who managed to injure The Undertaker for real in 95') Mabel nonetheless became the King Of The Ring. What was Vince Mcmahon thinking?

Promotion Of The Year: WCW

You may think this is an odd choice, considering all the awards I've given the WWF. But overall, I preferred WCW's direction. Granted, it was mostly a WWF re-run with Hogan, Savage Earthquake etc. But it was still far better than the WWF's efforts storyline and booking wise.
