Biography

VINTERLAND was founded in 1992 under the name "Grimoires" in Kvicksund, Sweden. The band recorded two demos but as they were not satisfied with the results, the tapes have never been released. Thanks to their third demo that was finished in 1994 they were signed by Tomas Nyqvist, head of No Fashion Records, one and a half year later. During November 1995 the debut album "Welcome My Last Chapter (Wings Of Sorrow)" was recorded in Dan Swanö's (EDGE OF SANITY) Unisound Studios. It was released in September 1996. Unfortunately it would be the first and last VINTERLAND album as the band broke up shortly after its release because of internal problems between the band members.

Rumours / Unconfirmed information

  • According to metal-archives.com the band was formerly known as "Unlight". However I couldn't find any other source confirming this affirmation. Could it be that "Unlight" is the English translation of "Grimoires"? If "Grimoires" is not Swedish, it could be French and would mean something like "magic books" or "incoherent, obscure pieces".
  • According to Myrrthronth, the band was formerly known as "Vinterlandet"
  • Swedish Unanimated didn't stop writing songs after their "Ancient God Of Evil" album. When they split up they gave the songs they had written, but didn't want to release anymore, to close friends. According to Volk-Man (Die Apokalyptischen Reiter) riffs can be found on VINTERLAND's album that could actually be some of the riffs written by Unanimated. He states that VINTERLAND used to play under the name "War Anthem" (although the band denied that in an interview), a band former Unanimated members were said to take part in.
