Viking Mead Recipe

This basic recipe quenched the thirst of many a Viking.
The Vikings only used wild honey, hops and water.
Some mention herbs, perhaps those of sweet gale.

8L of water
one fistful of hops
one half fistful of honey
dry yeast

Simmer half of the water and hops for 20 minutes.
Stir in honey
Cover overnight
After 24 hours, skim the Mead.

The word ale came from a Viking word Aul. The Viking culture included a great amount of drinking. Once in Valhalla, the great warriors would fight and drink with constance. Their beer came from the mythical goat Heidrun, whose utters had an endless supply of beer.

Viking Proverb

Praise not the day until evening has come;
A woman until she is burnt; a word until it is tried;
A maiden until she is married; ice until it has been crossed;
Beer until it has been drunk.
