How You Will Be Assessed

How well you do in this learning cycle (Inbound Tourism) will depend on a combination of assessments. Essentially, this project is concerned with what information is wanted and needed by tourists travelling to our host destination, Dubai. This will be the basis for our destination marketing Web Page. For this subject, Introduction to Tourism, this project is NOT about mastering web design. Your Business Computing teacher will assess you in that area. The content of your created Web Page is important in this subject

Your grade for this project will be determined by combining the results of a number of assessments leading to your destination promotional Web Page.

Assessment Activity

  1. Evidence:    Researching information that is valid, correct and timely is important. You will not be allowed to include any information or images that do not satisfy these conditions. You will be required to submit to your teacher a compilation of hard copy evidence of your research. The compilation will include all information about the destination's tourist product as well as valuable visitor information.

  2. Web Page:    It is essential you investigate current practices in destination marketing as learn from their good practices and mistakes. Visit the tips prepared for you in destination marketing and incorporate the useful ideas you may discover there. The Web Page you submit will only be informational and display ideas and images of the components of the destination's tourist product. Although infrastructure may be not too exciting to promote, for the purposes of this exercise it is required that you do so. A rubric is attached for you to see how the content your Web Page will be assessed.

  3. Viva:    A viva is an oral defence. After you submit your Web Page you will have the opportunity to justify the work you have done and convince the examiners that the work completed is your own individual work. The examiner will ask you questions about your research and the content of the Web Page. You will also have demonstrate an understanding of the interdependence between the components of the tourist product. A thorough understanding of what you have done and why you have done it is expected.

  4. Peer Assessment:    Students in this course will have the opportunity to assess the project work of each other. Students will grade the content of each others' Web Pages using the same Rubric the teacher uses.
