Product Benefits

Lying at the heart of marketing a specific tourist destination is having an understanding of potential visitors perceptions of that destinations. What benefits do they seek? What expectations do they have of the destination? In principle, there is no difference between a benefits view of products applied to travel and tourism and any other industry producing consumer goods.

Components of the total tourism product

Tourists don't consciously segment  a destination into components. However, in the decision making process when choosing tourist destinations, these components do fact as criteria to evaluate the destination and assist with the destination choice. The tourist product may be a bundle of tangible and intangible components. Based on their motives to travel and the activities in which they will engage at the destination travellers will place various levels of weighting on the individual components of the tourist product at the destination.
