Introduction

blank.gif (49 bytes)

This website is dedicated to a community cleanup project, TICK ( Trek It Clean - Kinabalu ), of the highest peak in South East Asia, Mount Kinabalu. Mount Kinabalu stands at 4095.2m tall and is in the Malaysian state of Sabah, on the island of Borneo. Mount Kinabalu is located within Kinabalu Park, a gazetted National Park.

In recognition of the importance of this mountain, UNESCO has designated this site as a World Heritage Site in the year 2000.

The TICK project will be undertaken by a group of approximately 30 volunteers and will take place on the 25th of August 2001.

The main objective of TICK is to raise public awareness on the environmental impact of an increasing number of visitors to this mountain especially with regards to littering. TICK will not be able to solve the problem of littering altogether but it is a step in the right direction. The group's action remains symbolic and, as mentioned, aims to disseminate the message of environmental conservation to the public at large.

This website would help us towards disseminating of information to a much larger audience, hopefully transcending the boundaries of Malaysia. In fact we are hoping that this would further educate future visitors to Mount Kinabalu to be mindful in helping to keep this World Heritage Site in pristine condition.

Apart from raising public awareness, we are also hoping that this website would help others when planning a community project of this nature. We shall try to include all useful information regarding the planning and implementation of TICK. If there are individuals/groups interested, you will be able to find, we hope, useful ideas and work plans which can be used as templates for similar projects.

The useful links on the sidebar of this website also serve the purpose of providing relevant information on similar environmental issues, Kinabalu Park natural resources, ecological biodiversity of Kinabalu Park, and general tourism information.

For individuals / groups who are contemplating projects of this nature, you may contact us to include a link to your project website.

This verse aptly describes Mount Kinabalu as the heart of the world, thus further emphasizing the importance of this sacred mountain to the people of ancient times and hopefully remind us, of its importance once again.
