"Jolly boating weather, And a hay harvest breeze, Blade on the feather, Shade off the trees, Swing, swing together, With your body between your knees…"

Eton Boating Song, William Cory (1823-1892)

Mooring  on the Thames:   A constant query, especially to new boaters is "where can I park (moor) the boat?".  Below are just a few suggestions.  It must be remembered that at peak time, summer weekends and Bank Holidays, some of the more popular town and Pub moorings are at a premium.  At these times, a slightly earlier mooring would be advised. Also, carrying a River Map of some sort is a most VITAL piece of equipment, it should show you the recognised areas to stop and of any potential charges, but always check for signs as land ownership does have a habit of changing.

(The Moorings shown are, in general, going downstream from Lechlade to Teddington and Environment Agency Moorings are free.)

Thames Fact:

Medmenham Abbey, originally built around 1595, has had many additions to it over the years, from 18th Century to Late Victorian styles. Also it was once the home of the infamous Hell Fire Club, under the auspices of Sir Francis Dashwood.
