The Boys in the Band
August 18 and 19, 1997
The following is from a press release from the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund,
1012 14th Street NW, Suite 2000, Washington, DC 20005 (Phone 202-842-8679, Fax 202-289-3863, Email VictoryF@aol.com)
Chad Allen, Mitchell Anderson, Michael Jeter, Michael Kearns, Greg
Louganis, Tim Maculan, Steve Tyler, Michael Ralph and Bruce Vilanch Star in
Historic Presentation of The Boys in the Band
For the first and only time, an all-star
celebrity cast will assemble for a 30th anniversary reading of Mart
Crowley's controversial classic, The Boys in the Band. The electrifying
production stars top-rank actors Chad Allen (Dr Quinn Medicine Woman),
Mitchell Anderson (Party Of Five), Michael Jeter (Evening Shade), Tim
Maculan (Cybil), and Michael Ralph (A Different World); film actor Steve
Tyler; theater veteran Michael Kearns; multiple Emmy-award winner Bruce
Vilanch; and Olympic gold-medalist Greg Louganis.
One-hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the Gay and Lesbian
Victory Fund, the only national organization dedicated solely to increasing
the number of qualified openly gay men and women in public office. "This
historic production marks 30 years of incredible progress for our community
- from pre-Stonewall oppression to pre-millennial optimism and
empowerment." says Victory Fund Deputy Director Kathleen DeBold. "We're
extremely proud that these sought-after stars would lend their valuable
time and talent to preserving our past and celebrating our future."
And here's a quote from the Southern Voice newspaper:
An all-star, all-gay cast will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mart
Crowley's groundbreaking play The Boys in the Band with a reading in Los
Angeles on Aug. 18 and 19. Check out this lineup: Chad Allen, Mitchell
Anderson, Michael Jeter, Tim Macaulan, Michael Ralph, film actor Steve Tyler,
stage actor Michael Kearns, Emmy winner Bruce Vilanch and Olympic diver Greg
Louganis. All proceeds will benefit the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, which
seeks to elect gay candidates.
"It's really nice to have these openly gay actors willing to come out and
do these kinds of things... ," said Daren Phillips, a development officer
with the fund.
