                                                   Our Policy

Withdrawal
If you want to withdraw your child, you must notify the school in writing at least two weeks before the
child's last day of attendance.

Vacations
After six months of enrollment, your child is entitled to a tuition-free two-week vacation per year, and
your child's space is guaranteed upon returning from vacation.
If your child has been enrolled at Kids Are First for fewer than six months and you want to take a
vacation, we cannot guarantee a space for your child upon his or her return unless you pay the tuition in
full.

Dropping Off and Picking Up Children
The state requires that children only be released to authorized adults. If you are unable to pick up your
child, please make arrangements with the director. When dropping off and picking up your children, it is
important that you sign them in and out at the front desk. If you know you will be late, please call
ahead of time to inform a staff member. All children must be picked up by 6:00 P.M. or a late fee will
be charged at $1.00 per minute.

Absences
If your child is absent for any reason, we will reserve your child's place in the center, and as such, you
will be charged your normal daily rate.

Illness
To make sure that your child is protected from contagious diseases, we require that parents examine
their children for any signs of illness before bringing them to school. If your child is ill, has a contagious
condition, or has any of the following symptoms:
• Diarrhea (three or more watery stools in 24 hours)
• Vomiting (two or more times in 24 hours)
• Fever (a temperature of 100° Fahrenheit or more)
• Sore throat (with fever or swollen glands)
• Eye infection
• Rash (especially with itching or fever)
• Lice or nits (please call and alert us; we will examine everyone without mentioning any names or
causing any  child embarrassment)
• Discharge from eyes or ears
• Colored discharge from the nose
• Active sneezing or coughing
• Any other symptom indicating illness or a potentially contagious condition.

Children are observed every morning for signs of illness. If any symptoms are apparent, you will be
required to pick up your child. This policy is for the health and well-being of all the children and staff
in the center, and enables us to provide the best possible environment for your child.

Medication/Allergies

If your child is on medication, it must be brought to the school in the original container. The parent is
required to fill out the necessary forms before the center can administer medication to the child. It is
the parent's responsibility to take home the medication when your child no longer needs it or it has
expired. ONLY PRESCRIBED MEDICATION BY A DOCTOR WILL BE GIVEN TO A CHILD. A NOTE
FROM A DOCTOR MUST ACCOMPANY ANY MEDICATION THAT IS NOT PRESCRIBED

Discipline

We believe that the best way to encourage children's good behavior is to provide them with interesting
activities in a supportive environment. Our policy is to positively reinforce good behavior with praise and
attention. If a child misbehaves, the child will be redirected to a new activity. If the child has a
tantrum, he or she is put into a "time-out" period until calming down enough to return to play. If a child
pushes, hits, or otherwise harms or alarms another child, the child goes into "time-out" until apologizing
or calming down, while the other child is comforted.

Clothing and Supplies
When your child is first admitted to Kids Are First Preschool and Child Care Center, you need to bring:

• A recent photograph of your child, either 3" x 5" or 4" x 6"
• Two sets of extra clothing
• A sheet, small blanket, and a small pillow (for nap time)
• A one-week supply of diapers (if your child wears them)

NOTE: Each child has a cubby where their clothing and other personal items are kept.

Important Rules
The director may refuse or immediately terminate child care service to the parent or guardian for any
of the following reasons:

• Non-payment of the rate for basic services within five days of the due date.
• Failure of the parent or guardian to comply with the facility rules after receiving written notice.
• If the child's behavior is uncontrollable and unacceptable, or causes harm to other children or to
him/herself.
• Inability of the facility to meet the child's needs.
• Change in the facility's license, requiring care and supervision to a different client group.

Approved reimbursement will be made in a timely manner when leaving the facility, regardless of the
reason for leaving.
