~Camaro Modifications~

My car's stock info:

1998 3.8L V6 Sebring Silver Metallic (bought her with 60 miles on the clock on August 29, 1998)

Preferred Equipment group 1SC- foglamps, keyless entry and alarm, leather wrapped steering wheel, shifter, and E-brake, power locks and windows and mirrors, blah blah blah...

T-tops

Monsoon CD player

16" painted aluminum 5-spoke rims. No cheap-o hubcaps yuk!... I really wanted chrome though :(

Side moldings

Dark grey cloth interior

Current performance mods:

Borla adjustable cat-back exhaust (part #14813). (Paid $75 for a muffler shop to install when I shoulda just done it myself.)

SLP level 2 Eibach road race springs and SLP Bilstein shocks. (Installed myself with help from my dad.)

SLP bolt-on, double diamond sub-frame connectors painted red with engine enamel. (Installed myself with help from my dad.)

G2 sway bars: 32mm front and 21 mm rear. (Installed myself with help from my dad.)

3.42 gears and Auburn LSD from my friends 98 SS. I originally had an electronic ratio adaptor to fix my speedo but it made my tranny slip in overdrive and it would also hit fuel shutoff at WOT before it shifted into 2nd. That was miserable.

Word of advice: NEVER INVEST IN AN ELECTRONIC RATIO ADAPTOR if you have an automatic tranny!

I eventually got my computer reprogrammed at my local dealership with the VIN# I stole off a 98 Y87. (Paid for all this to be done cuz I don't have the capabilities: $300 for gear install, $225 for that stupid ERA, and free computer reprogramming thanks to my friends at the dealership)

Homemade cold-air intake made from 4" air ducting and rubber clamps purchased at Home Depot. I topped it off with a huge K&N air filter (part #CAE-1796). The whole project cost under $100. (Of course I installed this one myself)

UPDATE! I have since taken off this setup because the clamp that held the ducting to my TB kept coming loose, plus the filter would get really dirty cuz I had nothing to protect it. I put it all back to stock just because I didn't feel like dealing with it. The setup gave me more of a response when I mashed the pedal, but I didn't want to risk something getting into my motor.

Current miscellaneous mods:

Tint (50% on sides, 20% on back)

Front and rear blackouts. Purchased at Pepboys ($40 for back, $45 for front) and used Pro 409 degreaser to get GTS decals off. (These have been SOLD! to my friend Matt.)

Black differential cover with drain plug from SLP for $30. Makes changing the rear end fluid much easier now since I have high heat silicone acting as my gasket and I don't want to have to take the cover off to drain my fluid.

Aftermarket sound system that cost $1800 including install and hits 134.4 dB with the amp 3/4 of the way up. Click here for pics and info.

UPDATE! On 4/21/01 my car was broken into and my stereo, radar detector, and 58 CD's were stolen. So I no longer have my cool system and I lost a TON of killer CD's. Fortunately, they didn't get my amp or JL 10 so I'm saving those for my next car. I put the stock Monsoon back in since I sold my Camaro when I my Firehawk arrived. Still pisses me off though. I'm pretty sure it was someone at my university who ganked my stuff. Bastards!

Future modifications:

None! I saved up for a 2002 Formula Firehawk which will be arriving hopefully this October, but it's taking forever to ship!

Also, in case you're curious about general upkeep stuff... here ya go.

I basically do all the work on my car myself. I occasionally get help from willing parties, especially when they have tools i don't (like 60 gallon air compressors, thanks dad). I change my own oil, tranny fluid, differential fluid, etc. I did most of the mods. And when I get my Firehawk, you bet your booty the only time anyone touches it besides me will be for necessary warranty work.

For cleaning, I use Mother's products to pamper my paint: car wash & 3-step wax... and I always use a soft cotton mitt to wash, an Absorber to dry, and a Mother's claybar to get rid of contaminants.

I run Mobil 1 synthetic oil and filter (changed every 4,000 miles), Mobil 1 synthetic transmission fluid (changed every 15,000 miles), Mobil 1 synthetic gear fluid (changed every 6,000 miles), and of course 93 octane gas (even with the currently high prices).

If you have any questions about what I've done, or have any suggestions feel free to e-mail me!

You are... since 11.05.00
