The Victor Family

Alida Vanlerberghe was born April 1, 1882 in Woumen, Belgium. Woumen is located in the province of West Vlaanderen. Alida died January 9, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents were Renatus Vanlerberghe (1857-1886) and Eugenie Tanghe (1859-1891). She had one brother, Camille Vanlerberghe (1884-1975). By age 8 Alida was an orphan. She emigrated to America at age 18. Alida paid her way to America by being employed as a nanny. She arrived in Chicago on Nov 22, 1901.

Alida married Camille Victor, who was born July 13, 1872 in Passchendael, Belgium. He died Sept 8, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan. Camille Arrived in American in 1883. They were married May 5, 1908 at St Charles Barromeo Church Detroit, Michigan

Ike's real name was supposed to be "Charles Irwin" instead of "Irwin Charles"; but some how the names were reversed by either the doctor or the town clerk when the birth was filed. Ike's mother Mary like someone she had worked with at Hyde Manor named "Irwin" and that is where the name came from.

As a young man, Ike worked for Mr. Dickerman, who lived a mile down from the Fox stone house. Ike lived with the family and his jobs included taking care of the horses and milking the cows. During the summer he earned $30 a month and in the winter the pay was $20 a month.
