Hi, my name's Sean. Welcome to my home page. I'm a (nearly) wealthy (OK, not even close) graduate and now employee of Edith Cowan University. For those of you unfamiliar with this great institution (i.e. most people) it's in Perth, Western Australia. I work in the Computer Support department of the Faculty of Business at the Churchlands campus, where I majored in Information Systems. I didn't achieve anything significant and finished with a 75% average.
I've lived in Perth for about 15 years now and having done some travelling I'm convinced Perth is one of the most beautiful cities in the world (if not just a little dull). Unfortuantely it's not very big (just over a million people) and a is million miles from everywhere. This means there's not much to do and whenever you do decide to venture out and do something you end up running into somebody you know. Cosy, but frustrating at times.
To make matters worse, the shear isolation of the place makes it hard getting your hands on some of life's little comforts. Commodities like the latest computer hardware and software (except Win95... bleuchhh!!!) and TV shows usually take about six months (or more) to filter down to us here (OK, maybe Win95 was here a day or two after release). Put it this way, they've only just started showing "Friends" here and when you say Amiga you can just see people visualizing A500's. I know it's sad but I still think Perth is a damn nice place.
In the second semester of 1996 Matthew Pienaar and I created a web site about Life in Perth for PC Multimedia (MIS 3382). Check out the resources we used.
In my final semester of study I took a unit in Director Lingo programming.
A multimedia interface for a CD by our favourite band called "Presidents" (948Kb Shockwave). It's "The Presidents of the United States of America's" second album, imaginatively called "II".
I've also done a little Java. This applet is called "Texter" and does absolutely nothing. Source is included so you can see just how I get it to do nothing. Here (113Kb ZIP) is the sum total of my work in that unit.
