On September 8, 2000, I went to Belmont Park to watch some of the best horses in training prepare for the Breeders' Cup. On the undercard was a maiden race for two-year-old colts and geldings. I was really looking forward to seeing Distinction, a $4,200,000 yearling who I had liked since seeing him before the yearling sale, and De Troupe, who I had seen run in June. However, when the horses stepped onto the track that day, I was focused on one horse...a big bay named Saarland. When I got home that day, I wasn't talking about any of the horses from the three Grade 1's that I had witnessed that day; I was talking about "Saar." I have seen him at the Champagne (G1), Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1), and Remsen Stakes (G2) since then. I had the pleasure of meeting him through Mr. McGaughey's assistant, Buzz Tenney, one of the nicest people I've ever met. It was an experience I will never forget. Since the day that I first saw him, Saar has developed into one of my all-time favorite horses. On January 10, 2002, I decided to start a fan club for him, and this is the result. On March 9, I recieved word from Robbie Medina and the club was officially unveiled shortly after.
