Richard died abt 6 Mar 1781; he was 71. [38] NOTE: He was a chairmaker by trade. He lived in Cape Elizabeth, Gorham and Falmouth, Maine, before 1781, when he shows in Deer Isle. On 20 Aug 1732 Richard & Mary were admitted to the 1st Church of Falmouth. Then on 18 Nov 1733 they joined the Congregational Church in Scarborough. He settled first at Cape Elizabeth, then at Penepscott, later called Danville, still later Auburn, where he was the first settler in town. He took up land in the wilderness, built a log house. He was a Revolutionary Soldier, enlisted twice. Served four years. Private in Captain Hart Williams' Co. Col. Edmund Phinney's Regiment 1776. Was with Washington at Valley Forge. Reuben Fogg. Charles thinks that he was the son of Richard Crockett, However, THIS HISTORY OF NORWAY shows that he was the son of Joshua & Elizabeth Crockett of Gorham. The HISTORY OF GORHAM, p 455, and the HISTORY OF NORWAY, p 382, show that Joshua Crockett died 18 Feb 1800, Gorham, very aged, and that his wife, Elizabeth died September 1798, Gorham, very aged, but no ages given.
