A Love Letter
by Nanao Sakaki (Copyrighted)

Within a circle of one meter
You sit, pray and sing.

Within a shelter ten meters large
You sleep well, rain sounds a lullaby.

Within a field a hundred meters large
Raise rice and goats.

Within a valley a thousand meters large
Gather firewood, water, wild vegetables and Amanitas.

Within a forest ten kilometers large
Play with racoons, hawks,
Poison snakes and butterflies.

Mountainous country Shinano
A hundred kilometers large
Where someone lives leisurely, they say.

Within a circle ten thousand kilometers large
Go to see the southern coral reef in summer
Or winter drifting ices in the sea of Okhotsk.

Within a circle ten thousand kilometers large
Walking somewhere on the earth.

Within a circle a hundred thousand kilometers large
Swimming in the sea of shooting stars.

Within a circle a million kilometers large
Upon the spaced-out yellow mustard blossoms
The moon in the east, the sun west.

Within a circle ten billion kilometers large
Pop far out of the solar system mandala.

Within a circle ten thousand light years large
The Galaxy full blooming in spring.

Within a circle one billion light years large
Andromeda is melting away into snowing cherry flowers.

Now within a circle ten billion light years large
All thoughts of time, space are burnt away
There again you sit, pray and sing
You sit, pray and sing.

Thank you Nanao!

Earth Prayer by Polly Turner

Earth Prayer

It is in our power
to help bring the Earth
back to vibrant life
Our power begins
with prayer

I pray that pollutants
shall be removed
from oceans, rivers, streams,
lakes, ponds, and puddles
That all waters,
shallow and deep,
shall flow sparkling and clear and pure
to sustain all manner of life:
fishes, animals, plants, humans
my loved ones' lives
my children's lives
my neighbors' lives
all God's creatures lives,
my life.

I pray that the skies
shall be clear,
brilliant blue
that winds will blow
fresh, pure air
rich in life-giving gases
so every breath taken
by Earth's creatures
will nourish and vitalize.
I pray that Earth's soil
shall be replenished
with nutrients it craves,
organic and fertile,
free of pollutants,
so forests will prosper
so plains will prosper
so plants will prosper
and life will prosper,
a bounty for all.

I pray Earth herself
can come to rely
on all us citizens
as beneficial organisms,
as good citizens
so that even as we
are sustained by the Earth,
she will find us to be
a source of her sustenance.

I pray we will be shepherds of the Earth.

I pray that wise, compassionate, and inspiring
world leaders will emerge
driven by compassion
and gratitude
whose voices will be heard
by all Earth's citizens
breaking our denial
opening our hearts
opening the way
for endless solutions
and awakening in us
our power
to help bring the Earth back
to vibrant life.

I pray that our power
begins with this prayer.

Thanks again Polly! I encourage others to share their artistic work.
