The Retained Organs Commission The Government has set up this commission to oversee the return of organs to families. It hopes to learn from the experience of the Alder Hey families, and Steve Catling, the Acting Chief Executive has been to a PITY II Committee meeting to hear first hand about our difficulties. He will be coming back again soon, along with Margaret Brazier, who is the Chair of the Commission. She is Professor of Ethics and Law at Manchester University. The Commission has stopped all hospitals from giving out information, or returning any organs until they are happy that the hospitals have accurate systems in place to respond to people's questions. They are making Alder Hey a priority to check out, as any further delays in information or funerals would be unfair on the families who have already had to endure so much. If families are in severe distress about delays, the Commission will look at individual cases to see if they can be allowed to go ahead. The Commission is also seeking lay [non-professional] members for the commission. They want 6 members for the commission board. The board members are in addition to staff. "Board
