Meeting with the new Chair of Alder Hey Judith Greensmith, who was brought in as temporary Chairman of the hospital returned to her previous post of Chair of Liverpool Health Authority on the day the Redfern Report came out. The new Chair is Angela Jones, who was the Chair of the Cardiothoracic Centre - the heart unit at Broadgreen Hospital. Angela was very keen to meet with the parents, and a meeting was arranged with the committee. Angela told us that she was a great believer in patient power, and had tried to practice it in her role as Chair. She felt that it was an advantage in her new role to be older, she is in her early 60s, and a scouser. Her background is in teaching and she was an education advisor. The committee raised many concerns with Angela over the way that things have happened during the last 18 months, and how we had already been promised a fresh start by the last Chairman, which had all gone wrong. Angela said that she didn't have any of the answers and that she could only come and listen and try to get answers where she could. The hospital was taking the Redfern Report very seriously. A working party had been set up, and an action plan would be drawn up to go to the trust board. Angela has assured us that the wheels are moving - there has been publicity about some staff being suspended - but this would take time as employment law had to be followed.
