Complaints to the General Medical Council About Doctors

If you want to complain about the doctor involved in your child's care you should write a letter to the GMC. Where justified a parent can complain about any doctor who was involved in the care of their child. The complaint can include any concerns about the treatment of the child before death, as well as the retention of organs. The more parents who complain individually, the more effective this will be - the GMC will have to take notice.

In the letter of complaint you need to include:

  • Your full name, address, and phone number
  • Your child's full name, date of birth and date of death
  • The names of the doctors you are complaining about
  • The hospital where you saw the doctors
  • The date when the cause for complaint happened
  • A statement of what it is you are complaining about
  • Copies of any relevant documents - letters or medical records
  • Details of anyone else who saw or heard the things you were complaining about
  • If you have already made a complaint, details of where you have complained to, and copies of any relevant letters.
  • You must sign the letter.

Send it to
General Medical Council
178 Great Portland Street

W1N 6JE

If you want help with making the complaint, please speak to your own solicitor, PITTY II's solicitor, or contact the office (details at the top of the page) and we will endeavour to get you some help.
