Chief Medical Officer's Summit on Organ Retention About 130 members of PITY II made the journey to London to attend the summit. Coaches with our members went from Liverpool, Runcorn, North Wales and Preston, thanks to some impressive organisation by Jan Robinson and some of the committee and co-ordinators. Most of those who went agreed that it was worthwhile. Although most of the formal evidence to the Chief Medical Officer's panel was from doctors, the contributions from the audience - mostly from PITY II members - were very powerful and seemed to impress the panel. It was acknowledged that there was no choice than to change the law. There is a website where the proceedings from the day, and the evidence submitted will be published - www.cmosummit.org.uk. A book of evidence was given out on the day, containing statements that had been sent in beforehand. If anyone has any spares of this book can you please let the PITY II office know, as we need more copies for those who couldn't go. There were not enough for everyone at the seminar so we couldn't bring spares back to Liverpool. One of the pieces of evidence was a very unwise e-mail, apparently sent in by an employee of Sefton Council. He blamed the Liverpool mentality for turning the organ retention at Alder Hey into a scandal - particularly interesting as we have more members from outside of Liverpool than within. He has now been suspended from work as they investigate his use of the Council e mail system to send it. The Daily Post, in an editorial, very wisely advised against personal reprisals.
