NACOR (the National Committee Relating to Organ Retention) On Tuesday 28th November, NACOR held a seminar at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Liverpool. Unfortunately they did not let PITY II know about it until a few days beforehand, so although we sent the letter out to all our members, there was only a few days notice. They have held a series of seminars, funded by the Department of Health, across the country. Michaela Willis, the Chair of NACOR, who is also the Chair of the Bristol Children's Heart Action Group, reported that they knew of 144 hospitals across the country where organ retention had happened. The aim of the seminars was to get a public voice, and to provide a collective view to the Department of Health. They encouraged everyone to make a written statement to the Secretary of State for Health, either by writing it themselves, by giving it to a solicitor, or contacting NACOR. It seems that there are plans for a national seminar on 11th January, and the aim is for the statements to feed into this. Although as a group we have serious concerns about being able to get things done for this very tight timescale, we have agreed that we will do what we can to help people who want to make a statement. Ian Cohen, the group's solicitor, will be sending out a questionnaire that people can fill in if they wish, and this will go to the Department of Health. You should get a copy sent to you automatically if you are a member of PITY II. Completing the questionnaire is optional. You can of course consult any solicitor if you wish to give a statement. The statements will be published on a web site, as well as being made available for the seminar. If you are interested
in attending the seminar, please contact the PITY II office and we
will let you have more details as soon as we have them. |
