A Word from the PITY II Chair

Alice Proctor - PITY II ChairAs you are aware, PITY II was set up to support and advise parents in all matters relating to organ retention and with your help we have managed to be a support group for 5 and a half years.

Thousands of calls have been received at the PITY II office over this period of time. Contact with parents has become less and less over the past few months and the volume of calls has significantly decreased. Parents have rightfully moved forward with their lives and the need for support from the group has decreased.

With this in mind, the Executive has reached a decision that the time has now come to cease as a support group. One of the main aims and objectives of PITY II was to bring about a change the law. This was achieved in November 2004 when the Government passed a new law relating to Human Tissue.

As an executive we feel that PITY II has accomplished much in a short time scale, every one of you has helped to achieve this. It has been a very emotional five and half years, together we have been through so much. We hope we have been of help to you; all we can say is that we have done our best. Many of the changes took place because we all stood up and were counted, so thank you.

There will be a final edition of the newsletter printed in May/June, if you would like anything included in this final issue please let us know. The website will, of course, continue and any information updates will be placed online. We can still, of course, be contacted through email at pity2uk@yahoo.co.uk . I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the PITY II Executive to wish you all well.

Our thanks go to the following:-

Past Chairs and executive members. To Richard and Eileen for all the work on our excellent website and to you all for your trust help and support, when we were down we needed to know that you were there.

Our Best wishes to you all……ALICE PROCTER and the PITY II Executive
