Meetings At Alder Hey

Alder Hey HospitalMembers of the PITY II Executive have regularly attended meetings at Alder Hey hospital over the past 4½ years to discuss the many complex issues surrounding organ retention.

After attending the seminar entitled 'Developments in Bereavement Care - Looking Forward' in January, at Alder Hey, it was felt by the PITY II Executive that many lessons had been learnt and that much had been achieved.

Whilst we will continue to offer help and support to families and individuals making enquiries to the hospital, it was agreed that is was no-longer necessary to attend the regular Bereavement Partnership Group meetings.

We have written to the Chief Executive and Chair to advise of our decision and in return have received a letter thanking PITY II for the "commitment, dedication and knowledge" shown over the past 4 years.

We will continue to advocate on your behalf if families or individuals need help with making enquiries or are experiencing problems with gaining information.

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
