Recent Reports - Update

ISAACS REPORT - As mentioned in the last edition of our newsletter the Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson had requested H M Inspector of Anatomy, Dr. Jeremy Metters to conduct an investigation into the circumstances of organ retention following the post mortem of Mr Cyril Isaacs.

The report of this investigation was released on May 12th. The experiences of two other families are also contained in the report.

Dr Metters made thirty-four recommendations in his report and they are enclosed with the newsletter for your information.

THE REVIEW OF CORONERS SERVICES
- In July 2001 the Home Office appointed a team led by Mr Tom Luce to review the coroners' service & death certification in England, Wales & Northern Ireland.

The report into their findings was published in June 2003 and calls for an overhaul to the present system. Many people including individual family members and representatives from PITY II contributed to the review.

The report is very extensive and one hundred twenty-three recommendations have been made. Copies of the recommendations are included for your information.
