Liverpool University

Liverpool University has consistently refused to meet with PITY II as a group.The committee has had one meeting with representatives from the university, in April 2001, following the Redfern Report. Despite promises to have another meeting, our most recent request has been refused by the University on the grounds that as they are now joined in Legal issues with the Alder Hey Trust, it would not be appropriate to meet with us.

Recent media coverage of an incident involving Liverpool University was met with a 'no comment' reaction from them.

It is Sixteen months after the release of the Redfern Inquiry Report and the Follett Review* was concluded some time ago. However Liverpool University's own internal inquiry is still "ongoing." There is no indication as to when it will be completed, or if it will be made public, when it is completed.

We will keep you informed of further developments.


* The Follett Review was a review into the accountability and management arrangements between NHS Trusts and universities where senior staff are employed on joint contracts. It was ordered by David Blunkett, the then Secretary of State for Education and Employment and was published in September 2001.

 

 

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
