Exhibition of Plastinated Organs It is our duty to inform you, that it has come to the attention of
PITY II that a certain Professor van Hugens has applied for a
licence to bring a collection of plastinated [encased in plastic]
human bodies and organs into this country to put on exhibition to
the general public. In our opinion an exhibition of this nature would be in extremely bad taste and an affront to public decency. If this exhibition were allowed to go ahead, we feel it would cause an unimaginable amount of distress to the general public. Especially to those families who have been directly involved with organ removal and retention without their knowledge or consent, and will only serve to prolong the hurt and pain that families are suffering around the country. PITY II has sent a letter (dated 27/12/01) of protest to the Home Secretary the Rt. Hon. David Blunkett, MP. requesting him not to allow this exhibition to enter Great Britain under any circumstances. Copies of the letter were sent to: Rt. Hon. Tony Blair MP [Prime
Minister], Alan Milburn MP, Hazel Blears MP and the CMO, Professor
Sir Liam Donaldson. A copy of the letter is, as always, available to members on request.
