WHY?

As you may know, the Memorial Service for children, involved with the organ retention issues in the UK, 'Honouring the Memory', took place in the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on Saturday the 10th of November 2001. The service was poignant and emotional and the general consensus of opinion from parents and families was that they all took great comfort from the service.

PITY II received a message from Canon Mark Boyling of Liverpool Cathedral, which is reproduced below:

Dear John & Pauline,

My colleagues and I are tremendously grateful to you both for your untiring help as we planned and prepared for yesterday's service. Many were clearly touched by it and felt it had been helpful to them. Will you please pass on my thanks to your committee and those who served on the working group.

Our thanks, too, to Jenni Thomas and the Child Bereavement Trust for the beautiful floral tribute that we received on the 9th of November 2001 for the 'Honouring the Memory' Service. They were placed in the Cathedral. Thank you.

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
