Retained Organs Commission A
series of meetings were held in Liverpool recently, to give the people
of Merseyside, involved in organ retention, an opportunity to meet
with the commission and to be able to ask questions and put their
views to the panel. The commission decided that it would hold their meetings in public and the first was specially arranged at the request of the commission and especially for the people in the North West. It was held on the evening of the 11th September in the Suites Hotel, Knowsley. The second meeting took place the following day, 12th September, in the Alex Young Suite, Goodison. The day's proceedings started at 9.30am. The commission held its normal meeting in public, which took up the first three hours or so. The public were not allowed to participate at this time but it did give everyone an insight to how the commission run their meetings. After the commission meeting there was a session allowing people to ask questions and air their concerns. After lunch the commission resumed their meeting after which commission and public were split into discussion groups. Each group was given a particular topic of discussion that was reported back before the meeting closed. The commission took note of the many comments and issues that arose at the meetings and promised to investigate individual concerns that had been reported to them by those present. Some members of the commission visited the PITY II offices in the evening for final discussions. We will be meeting with Professor Margo Brazier & Steve Catling sometime in December for a progress update.
