Clinical Ethics & Human Tissue
(Removal, Retention and Use of Human Organ's and Tissue)

The new branch within the Department of Health, Clinical Ethics & Human Tissue
(Removal, Retention and Use of Human Organ's and Tissue
), was set up with Mr. Nick Dean as Branch Head.

The department is currently looking at new Code of Practice for communicating with families about Hospital and Coroners post-mortems. This is currently in draft form and we have been promised that we will be kept informed of progress and be given the opportunity to comment as the work progresses.

We are also informed that standardised forms for hospital post -mortems and the retention and use of organs has been drafted. These are some of the issues being looked at by the new department and we hope to be able to have constructive input into these and other matters.

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
