animated presentation of the words "Never Again!"

Royal College of Pathologists

You may have seen press reports that quoted Professor John Lilleyman (President -Royal College of Pathologists) as referring to the retained organs situation as 'fuss and bother'.

We took great exception to this comment and have just received a letter of apology from Professor Lilleyman. He says that he had not given an interview with a Liverpool newspaper recently and it is certainly not the way he viewed the matter.

Professor Lilleyman assures us that he will continue to put in as much time and effort as it takes to resolve all the difficult issues surrounding the problems concerned.

Professor Lilleyman's reassurances are welcome but the recent media coverage of the British Medical Association's conference at Bournemouth, and the view points expressed there by some of the delegates, does little to reassure us of a change in attitudes with relation to organ retention without the knowledge or consent of relatives.

We will be replying to Professor Lilleyman expressing our concerns and we will keep you informed.

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
