Group Litigation Order The Group Litigation Order (GLO) is the financial claim being made against Alder Hey by people who wish to claim financial compensation for what has happened to them. Many parents have signed up for this, but there are others who do not want money. There will be a directions hearing on 19th July, which among other things will discuss the future timetable of the GLO. PITY II's legal advisors, Goodman's, who are the lead solicitors for the Alder Hey GLO, will be asking for the "cut off date" by which people have to register if they want to be part of the GLO, to be extended from the end of September to the end of December. The Legal Services Commission (formerly the Legal Aid Board) has confirmed that for individuals who meet the financial criteria, public funds (the old Legal Aid) will be available. The financial rules about who is eligible are complicated, and you should get advice from a solicitor or recognised advice agency such as the CAB, but briefly if you qualify for Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance, and have capital of less than £2,760 you may qualify. The Legal Services Commission has said that only firms approved for Clinical (Medical) Negligence will be able to offer public funding. If you have not already indicated that you want to be part of the GLO you should contact a solicitor, and if you are involved with Alder Hey, ask the solicitor to contact Goodman's on 0151 707 0090. If you are not part of Alder Hey, but one of the other hospitals across the country that are involved, ask your solicitor to contact the lead solicitor for the national GLO, Clarke, Wilmot, Clarke on 0117 941 6600. If you want help to find a local solicitor with clinical negligence approval, ring the Legal Service Commission on 0845 608 1122.
