Introduction Metro rabbit fanciers club meets on a monthly basis Our aim is promote the rabbit fancy in our state, Victoria and educate the public regarding responsible ownership of rabbits.
We run regular shows in the suburb of Essendon In Melbourne, and cater for all breeds of pure bred rabbits. We also give individuals the opportunity to exhibit pet or unregistered rabbits
In Victoria, we exhibit our rabbits using the British rabbit council standards. What this means is that any breed of rabbit that is recognised by the British Rabbit Council can be exhibited at our shows. Currently, there are over 20 different breeds of rabbits available. Such breeds include, breeds kept for pets such as dwarf lops, netherland dwarfs, and polish to commercial and fur breeds including New Zealand whites, and satins, as well as rex rabbits. Show rabbits are identified using a metal ring that is slipped on the hind leg when the rabbit is a youngster. This is the same system that is used in England. These rings come in different sizes and contain information such as the rabbits year of birth ie 99 for 1999 and a number that is unique the particular rabbit.
Admission to shows is free. Anyone interested in coming along to a show is welcome
