Raise Awareness in Your Community
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

As the emblem for childhood cancer, the gold ribbon symbolizes the
precious nature of all children. It is seen as the golden flame of hope that
burns brightly for childhood cancer patients, survivors, and families and
honors the young lives lost to the disease. The gold ribbon was developed in 1997 by Gigi Thorsen in memory of her daughter, Kelsey.

On a sunny fall day, rows of empty schoolroom desks stood on the lawn of the US Capitol as silent and dramatic reminders of the 46 children - two classrooms of children - who are diagnosed with cancer every school day.  For more information about raising awareness in your community please find the NCCF website at:  http://www.childhoodcancerawareness.org/

Angels on Earth Award Alexander's Gateway Chapel and Funeral Home located in Cleveland, GA is the recipient of the 1st quarter 2001 Angels on Earth Award.  This program's mission is to recognize people in the medical profession and corporate sponsors that have made children's lives a little easier during their journey with Cancer.  Brian and Connie Alexander, own and operate this chapel nestled in the North Georgia Mountains.  The Alexander's have made a commitment to our Friendly Hand program to assist families with financial needs during a child's treatment.  With their support, Brandon's Foundation has been able to increase our ability to aid more children applying for assistance.  We respectfully thank Brian and Connie for their continued support and dedicate to these very special children. Congratulations.

Volunteers visit Children's HeatlhCare of Atlanta Patients at Children's HealthCare of Atlanta will receive some special treatment during their clinic visits this July.  Children at the clinic will be able to participate in art activities sponsored by the foundations.  Thanks to Ms. Valee Sewell and Mrs. Patty Bedford as children can enjoy face painting, stamp art, and water coloring.  A good time will be shared by all.

Inaugural Rainbow of Heroes Walk Duke Medical center in Durham, N.C. held a fundraiser to raise money for the PBMTU inpatient family support program.  Over 300 people traveled incredible distances to participate in this event.  Brandon's Foundation proudly sponsored this event.  An incredible $42,000 was raised in the 5200 yard walk, held 5, 2001.

Families Struggle with Hidden Cost It is unimaginable to understand the cost associated with treating a child with a life threatening disease, in addition to the emotional physical strain a family endures.   Many families move from their community into a hospital/medical community for treatment.  Brandon's foundation has a special program o help aid families during their time of need.  This program is called, A Friendly Hand - click here for more information.

New Family Support Program - coming soon

Brandon’s Foundation continues to seek assistance for qualifying children.  The Board of Directors for Brandon’s Foundation has found a unique way of involving community support to assist children with Cancer. A pilot program named  “Let’s Make A Difference” is currently underway and seeking support from businesses, churches, and individuals.

“Let’s Make A Difference” is a family support program that allows contributors to sponsor a specific child and their needs. Currently under our “Friendly Hand” program each recipient receives $ 150.00 to apply towards, lodging, grocery, utility bills, and medical treatments.  In addition to our Friendly Hand program, the Let’s Make A Difference program allows Brandon’s Foundation to offer financial support to children in need.  The key to the success of this program is you. Each child needs a sponsor. If you are interested in sponsoring a child please contact us at 706-865-0470 or via email @ mbyccf@ngweb.net

Sponsors can be an individual or a group of people. When you apply as a sponsor you receive a picture of the child being sponsored. An address to write to the child, a list of needs, and a medical prognosis of the child.

All sponsors receive tax deductions for their contributions.

Art Shows Promise

The Foundation for Hospital Art is dedicated to involving patients and volunteers worldwide to create colorful, soothing artwork donated to hospitals to help soften the often stressful hospital experience for patients, families and hospital staff.

In memory of Brandon, the Foundation for Hospital Art donated 6 pieces of Art to 2 hospitals of choice. Duke Medical and the Medical College of Georgia will be the recipients of this beautiful artwork in memory of Brandon. We are very thankful for this contribution.

Cancer Fighting
Facts
An estimated 20 million people will search the Internet this year for information about cancer.  We want to alert you of a new Web Site www.cancerfacts.com. This site offers users a unique interactive Cancer Profiler system, which allows access to data tailored to the patient's specific needs, and helps them make decisions about treatments.  The site was developed to help patients and parents benefit from the experiences of others in scientific studies.  We hope that this site can help answer questions for you , or enable you to ask the right questions to your doctor.
