InfoShaman On Music

Welcome to my page about music, which is perpetually under construction.

Can anything be done to get the music industry to re-release these classics on CD?

Even Dozen Jug Band This group jump-started the careers of Maria Muldaur, Geoff Muldaur, David Grisman, Jim Kweskin, John Sebastian and others. So why can we only get this as an expensive imported CD?
Judy Henske She had many recordings in the '60's. When will we see them all released on CD? Late breaking news! Her early album High Flying Bird is now available, as is her eponymous debut album.
Joe & EddieA unique folk duo from the '60's, with several LPs. Only a selection of their music is now currently available in a single "Greatest Hits" compilation CD.
Jim Kweskin Another '60's folk artist who's discography should be re-released as CDs, especially Relax Your Mind. InfoShaman is pleased to note that this record has now been released as a CD.
Pacific Gas &Electric A great Bay Area R&B band from the '60's and '70's, much of whose discography still awaits re-release on CD. In the early '70's, a French label, BYG Records, released a series titled "Pop Blues". Number 7 in the series was PG&E's "Wade in the Water", containing one of the best recorded versions of the title song. Are any recording executives reading this?

Favorite Musicians
Dorothy Ashby One of the very few jazz harpists of note.Currently her album In A Minor Groove seems to be the only one available on CD.
Bjork InfoShaman still thinks she should have gotten the Oscar as best actress for her performance in Dancer in the Dark, the first postmodern musical.
Eva Cassidy An amazing voice who died far too young. Her version of Sting's "Fields of Gold" on the album Live at Blues Alley is the definitive one.
Nat King Cole InfoShaman would get major grief from a certain family member were he to omit this great pianist and singer from this list. However, InfoShaman has little patience for Nat's song Nature Boy. And he's still mystified as to what Frim Fram Sauce may be.
Abbey Lincoln A great, and underappreciated, jazz vocalist. InfoShaman believes that her album The World is Falling Down is the best album of her recording career.
Taj Mahal A master of any musical genre he attempts. Natch'l Blues is a good recording to start with.
Aimee Mann Her music for the film Magnolia was InfoShaman's first exposure, but I've since discovered her '80's band 'Til Tuesday.
Dale Maxfield InfoShaman would be remiss if he didn't mention his nephew's recordings. He suggests starting with Midnight Street.
Amina Claudine Myers. Her album Amina Claudine Myers Salutes Bessie Smith contains her powerful, non-verbal "African Blues". Well worth hearing again, and again, and...
Harry Partch The year 2002 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of this unique composer/hobo/ instrument builder.
Tom Waits What can you say about a voice that sounds like Kermit with laryngitis?
Zap Mama EuroAfricAsian World Beat music at its best. InfoShaman recommends starting with Adventures in Afropea.
