Nerhys's Story

Nerhys, 16 weeks old

Nerhys does not have much of a story yet as she is only four days old. What we do know is that she was born with her mouth open and screaming. The doctors looked in and saw something missing. Her entire soft palate was missing. She also has a funny lump on her pelvic bone and turned in feet. Boy, what a way to enter the world.

The lump is supposedly nothing. It seems to be a tiny piece of malformed bone at the back of her pelvis. Nothing serious and is only noticable to the touch. The doctors do not think that anything needs to be done for it. The feet will easily be cured by a bit of physio. It seems to be a result of the way she was in the womb (she seems to prefer the frog position).

The cleft palate, on the other hand seems to be a fairly major problem. While she can feed OK, she does regurgitate an awful lot back through her nose. This can cause infections. At the moment they do not know if it has affected her eustacion tube or not, so she may have a hearing impairment as well. At the very least she will need a plate in her mouth and extensive speech therapy.

One thing we are not doing is immunising her. After the problems Tyler had we are not taking any changes with this precious little gem.

When we know more I will finalise the page.

Read the diary.
