Episode 4: The Return of Kaibutsu

Rain poured down heavily on Seravi's and Dorothy's castle. Inside the two of them sat around the table drinking tea. Koun and Kujitsu, their two children were seated in highchairs, trying to feed themselves. In the middle of the table was a crystal ball.

Dorothy put down her glass of tea and looked at Seravi. He was focused on the ball, and remained so even though Dorothy spoke. 

Dorothy: What are you looking for, Seravi darling? 

Seravi didn't look up at Dorothy when he answered.

Seravi: There was an evil magician who lived in the north a long time ago.
Elizabeth: I didn't know Dorothy used to live in the north.

Dorothy looked fiercely at Elizabeth but controlled her anger.

Dorothy: So why are we looking for him?
Seravi: The king told me that when he was a boy, his father had banished an evil magician from the realm.
Dorothy: And he is worried that the wizard might take revenge?
Seravi: No, before they banished him, many of the great magicians at the castle put a spell on him, taking away all his evil power and transforming him into the least harmful of creatures.
Dorothy: So why are they worried?

Seravi looked up from the crystal ball.

Seravi: Because an evil heart will always remain an evil heart. The king wants to know what the magician is planning now.
Dorothy: How will you ever find him?
Seravi: I don't know... but we must try.


Cha Cha, Riiya and Shiine were seated at the giant banquet table. The table was empty except for the area in front of Riiya, which was littered with empty plates. Riiya continued to stuff himself as the food was continuously served.

Cha Cha: I'm so bored...
Riiya: I'm so hungry...
Shiine: Don't be so greedy, you silly dog.

Riiya spoke in between mouthfuls of food.

Riiya: I'mphh notph a dogph, I'mph a wolf!
Cha Cha: Shiine, what should we do now?
Shiine: Oh, I know, there is a beautiful lake in the northern part of the kingdom. Maybe if we can stop this dog eating long enough we can go.
Riiya: Wait! It's raining Shiine, how can we go?

Cha Cha and Shiine slumped down in their chairs while Riiya continued gobbling up all the food. Cha Cha suddenly had an idea. She got up from her chair.

Cha Cha: I know! I'll make the rain stop!

She rushed towards the window, Shiine and Riiya followed her.

Cha Cha: Something to soak up this rain appear!

A giant sponge materialized in mid-air, collecting all the rain that was falling. Cha Cha was very thrilled.

Cha Cha: Yippie! I did it. Come on guys, let's go.

Shiine looked up at the sponge and saw that it was getting too full.

Shiine: Wait Cha Cha, I don't think the sponge can collect all the rainwater...

Suddenly the sponge fell to the ground throwing up all the water it had collected, some of it coming through the window Shiine was standing at throwing him to the ground. Cha Cha started crying.

Cha Cha: Oh no, now the rain is even heavier.
Riiya: Hahaha... Shiine got soaked... Shiine got soaked...

Shiine decided to trick Riiya.

Shiine: Shut up you stupid wolf!
Riiya: Hey! I'm not a wolf, I'm a dog...

Riiya realized that he had been tricked and started chasing Shiine around the castle.


Deep inside a cave, there was a fire burning. Long dark shadows stretched across the cave walls. There was a shadow of a huge muscular animal with sharp jagged teeth... 

The only thing that was in the cave was this small insignificant monster drying himself out in front of the fire. He was casting the long shadows in the cave. He was Kaibutsu.

Kaibutsu was a small monster, at most 2 feet tall. He didn't have claws or really sharp teeth, so he couldn't really harm anyone. He however had the ability to do magic, something he hadn't been able to do in a long time.

Kaibutsu walked towards the mouth of the cave and held his tiny little front paws out. In a cute yet commanding voice he chanted.

Kaibutsu: Rain stop!

And the rain stopped. Kaibutsu then walked out of the cave thinking about his next move. Thinking about how he could turn himself back into a human.


Dorothy was standing on the balcony of the castle. She looked out at the sky as the sun slowly came out.

Dorothy: Seravi, look the rain has stopped.

Seravi was still seated at the table gazing into the crystal ball. He didn't look up when he answered.

Seravi: Yes, and so suddenly.

Dorothy looked back at Seravi.

Dorothy: Why do you say that?

Seravi looked up at Dorothy.

Seravi: I sense an evil presence.
Elizabeth: Maybe it's Dorothy.

Dorothy started to chuckle before realizing what Elizabeth said.

Dorothy: What did you say?!


Kujitsu, Seravi and Dorothy's green-haired daughter looked at her brother, the blond-hair Koun. He was sleeping peacefully in the crib, and didn't notice that their parents were fighting again. Actually it was their mother destroying the furniture as Seravi's force field protected him. 

Kujitsu put her hand on Koun's face. Koun woke up when he felt his sister's hand touch his face. He got up and rubbed his eyes. Kujitsu pointed towards their parents fighting. With a silent nod, they knew what to do. 

Koun and Kujitsu: Waaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Dorothy was throwing the kitchen sink at Seravi when she heard her babies cry. She left the sink in mid air and both she and Seravi rushed to the crib leaving a stream of dust. The kitchen sink fell down after spending some time suspended in mid air. 

Seravi started to make funny faces at the babies while Dorothy started to shake a rattle. Kujitsu turned to Koun and gave him a wink. 


Cha Cha was very excited.

Cha Cha: Wow! The rain has stopped!

She started to laugh and jump up and down. Riiya changed into his wolf form and was jumping up and down beside her. Only Shiine was calm.

Shiine: How about we go to the lake now, Cha Cha?
Cha Cha: Oh yes! Let's go to the lake.

Cha Cha and Shiine got on their brooms and were about to take off when Riiya jumped on Shiine's broom.

Riiya: Take me to the Ramen Shop, driver.
Shiine: I'm not your driver, doggy!

Riiya for once didn't answer to that with his usual reply. He just simply stuck out his tongue and wagged it at Shiine. 

The three of them made their way to the lake, passing the forest below. Suddenly a gust of wind came out from the trees, causing Cha Cha, Shiine and Riiya to crash land on the forest floor. Cha Cha landed on her head with her legs wide apart in the air, her boots only showing under her dress even at that angle. Shiine lay flat on his back while Riiya was no where to be seen.

Shiine: Ouch...

Cha Cha was the first to get up, just moments before Shiine stood up behind her. She looked around the forest and then realized that Riiya wasn't with them.

Cha Cha: Oh no! Where's Riiya?!

A soft scream could be heard, slowly getting louder all the time. Shiine and Cha Cha looked up at the sky. Riiya came hurtling down like a comet from the sky. He finally landed flat on his face in front of Cha Cha and Shiine.

Cha Cha: Riiya!!! Are you okay?

Riiya was still lying face down in the hole he made when he raised his arm and answered.

Riiya: One chicken drumstick please!
Shiine: Still thinking about food at a time like this.

The three of them heard a noise in the bushes nearby. Cha Cha and Shiine turned towards the sound as Riiya got up. 

Cha Cha: What is that noise?
Riiya: Don't worry, I'll look.

Riiya transformed into a wolf. Shiine and Cha Cha followed him as he sniffed the ground for a scent.

Riiya: Over there!

The three of them ran among the trees for a while before coming out into another clearing. Riiya turned back into a boy.

Cha Cha: I don't see anyone.

Suddenly a deep voice called out.

Kaibutsu: Away with you, children. Go away from here.
Cha Cha: Wahh... who's that?
Riiya: Show yourself before we come and get you.
Kaibutsu: I am here.

They all looked around but couldn't see anybody. 

Shiine: Where?
Kaibutsu: Here.

They still couldn't see him as they looked everywhere.

Cha Cha: I can't see you.

Kaibutsu lost all his patience and shouted [his head becoming huge].

Kaibutsu: I AM HERE!!!!

Cha Cha saw him standing there, a cute monster just over 2 feet tall.

Cha Cha: Wow! He's such a cute monster.
Shiine: Yes, you're right. He is cute.
Riiya: Hey mister. You want to see something cute? I can turn into a wolf.

Riiya turned back into his wolf-form.

Kaibutsu: I am not cute! I am the greatest magician there ever was, and I will prove it to you!

Lightning flashed in the background.
Cha Cha picked him up and cuddled him. 

Cha Cha: Ooo... he's so cute.
Kaibutsu: Hey, let go of me.

Kaibutsu's little arms and legs were kicking, struggling to get out of Cha Cha's grasp.

Cha Cha: Oh I hope I can keep him.
Shiine: You have to ask your father first.
Riiya: Hey, Shiine, she's the princess, she can do anything she wants.

That got Kaibutsu's attention. He thought to himself.

Kaibutsu: So, this is the king's daughter... Maybe I can use her to get my revenge. Hahahahaha!!

Kaibutsu turned to Cha Cha and put on his cutest face, his eyes glistening and shiny.

Cha Cha: Oh... he's so adorable.

Riiya was beginning to get jealous. He pulled gently on Cha Cha's skirt.

Riiya: Hey, Cha Cha, how about me? Aren't I adorable?

Nobody answered, and Riiya started to get depressed.

Shiine: Well, do you guys want to go for a swim or what? The lake is just beyond those trees.

Cha Cha, Kaibutsu and Shiine started walking off towards the lake leaving Riiya there who was cursing silently to himself.

Riiya: Why does Cha Cha like that monster so much? She doesn't even think I'm adorable anymore...
Shiine: Hey, stupid dog, are you coming?
Riiya: I'm not a dog, I'm a wolf!

Riiya ran after them.


Yakko, Marine and Suzu arrived at the Royal Palace, looking for Cha Cha, Riiya and Shiine. They were let into the castle, yet could not see any sign of the three of them. Cha Cha's mother, the Queen, then met them. 

Queen: Hello children. Are you looking for Cha Cha?
Yakko: Yes, milady. Do you know where they are?

Marine stepped in front of Yakko.

Marine: Where has Cha Cha taken my Riiya now?

The queen smiled. Yakko pushed Marine back to the side.

Queen: I think they said something about going to the lake up north. Maybe you can find them there already.
Yakko: Thank you, milady. My friends would also like to thank...

Yakko turned back only to see a stream of dust as Marine dragging Suzu along, ran full speed towards the lake.

Yakko: Hey! These mermaids are so rude.

Yakko got on her broom and flew off.


Dorothy looked at the sun out her window when suddenly the castle was covered in a dark shadow. Dorothy looked out, and saw that Riiya's grandfather had come to visit. She smiled.

Dorothy: Hello, Riiya's not here, Grandpa.
Grandpa: I know. He's with Cha Cha, but I came as soon as Seravi called me.
Dorothy: Seravi?

Seravi came out to stand beside her and spoke to Grandpa. 

Seravi: Thank you for coming so soon.
Grandpa: Oh, that's nothing. So how can I help you, Seravi?
Seravi: I need someone to come with me to the land in the north Grandpa. I felt an evil presence there and I want to go investigate.

Dorothy spoke up.

Dorothy: But Seravi, I could have gone with you.

Seravi turned to face Dorothy.

Seravi: But who will take care of the children then?

The three of them were silent, before Grandpa came up with an idea.

Grandpa: I know, we can take them to the castle. That way we can visit the children, and ask them to take care of your twins.

Seravi and Dorothy's faces lit up at the suggestion.

Dorothy: Yes, I quite miss my Shiine, and I'm sure Seravi misses Cha Cha.
Elizabeth: Yes, living with Dorothy is quite boring.

Dorothy shot Elizabeth a dirty look.

Dorothy: Gnagnagnagnagna...

The three of them set off for the castle, with Dorothy and Seravi seated on each of Grandpa's shoulders, carrying one child each behind them.


Cha Cha, Kaibutsu, Shiine and Riiya reached the lake. Shiine and Cha Cha changed into their swimsuits, and dove into the lake. The very next minute, Cha Cha and Shiine ran back onto the surface.

Cha Cha: I..It's... c...cooolddd... 
Shiine: V... very.

Kaibutsu thought that this was a good opportunity to get into Cha Cha's good books. He saw that Riiya was about to run and jump into the lake, so he stepped out in front of him. Riiya accidentally kicked Kaibutsu into the lake.

Cha Cha: Oh no!

Kaibutsu landed in a splash. Cha Cha started to cry. Shiine turned towards Riiya.

Shiine: Now look what you've done! You've made Cha Cha cry!
Riiya: B...But...

Cha Cha got up to face Riiya. Her face was dark with anger.

Cha Cha: Riiya! How could you?!
Riiya: B...But Cha Cha...
Cha Cha: Why did you kick him into the lake?

Shiine saw something moving in the lake, and saw that it was Kaibutsu.

Shiine: Hey, Cha Cha. Isn't that him?

Cha Cha stood beside Shiine.

Cha Cha: Yes, that's him! We must rescue him.

But they didn't need to, as Kaibutsu slowly swam back to shore. Once on land, he buried his face into Cha Cha's lap and started to cry.

Cha Cha: That's okay, err... what's your name?

Kaibutsu stopped crying, whispered his name and then resumed crying.

Shiine: There, there Kaibutsu. You're safe now, away from some people.

Cha Cha and Shiine shot Riiya a look of anger. Riiya was heartbroken until he saw something coming out of the lake. Riiya tried to say something but all he could do was point. Cha Cha, Shiine and Kaibutsu turned around. They saw a giant monster coming out of the lake. It looked at them and said.

Lake Monster: I am the guardian of the lake. Who dares disturb my slumber?
Cha Cha: Oh golly.
Shiine: We... we didn't mean too...

The Lake monster was made out entirely of water. He stuck his face close to Cha Cha's and Shiine's faces. Cha Cha and Shiine eyes were wide with surprise. The monster smelt them from that distance.

Lake Monster: You have the smell of evil. You are evil creatures. How dare you step into my lake?

Riiya came striding to see the monster face to face.

Riiya: Look here, mister. Do you know whom you are talking too? I'm the strong and handsome Rii...

Riiya never had the chance to complete his statement, as the Lake monster flicked Riiya away. Riiya flew over the trees to land far, far away, his screams getting softer all the time. Shiine stood between Cha Cha and the Lake monster.

Shiine: You want a fight, monster? You don't know who you are messing with. Freezing wind appear!

A gust of wind from behind Shiine appeared and blew against the lake monster, but it didn't affect the Lake monster at all. He looked down at Shiine and laughed.

Shiine: Laugh at this! Oil app...

The Lake monster blew a stream of water right onto Shiine, causing him to fly back. Cha Cha looked at the Lake monster and put down Kaibutsu.

Cha Cha: Stand back, Kaibutsu... I'll protect you.

Kaibutsu grinned an evil smile. This was better than what he had planned. Cha Cha challenged the Lake monster.

Cha Cha: You think you're so tough? Something to suck up this monster appear!

Cha Cha moved her hands in front of her and in a giant puff of smoke, what she conjured for appeared in her hand. A straw!

Cha Cha: Ahhhh!! Why did I get a straw?!

She threw away the straw and tried another spell.

Cha Cha: Something to freeze this monster appear!

A refrigerator appeared. Cha Cha jumped in joy while the Lake monster had a question mark appear on top of his head.

Cha Cha: Haha! I've got you now.
Kaibutsu: Where are you going to plug it in?

Cha Cha held up the power plug and exclaimed.

Cha Cha: Oh no!

Riiya was running back at full speed, and came to stand beside Cha Cha.

Riiya: You can't do this to the Princess Cha Cha! I challenge you!

Suddenly something was grabbing onto the side of Riiya and wouldn't let go.

Marine: Oh my darling Riiya. How brave of you to fight that thing to protect me.
Riiya: Get away Marine.

Kaibutsu thought to himself.

Kaibutsu: What incompetent brats.

The lake monster shot a stream of water at Riiya and Marine, changing her into a mermaid, who was clutching a white wolf. Marine threw the wolf away.

Marine: Where are you my Riiya?

Yakko and Suzu arrived at the scene as well. Yakko held up a potion and prepared to throw it while Suzu took out her throwing stars and challenged the Lake monster.

Yakko: Have a taste of my potion! Freezing Potion EX!
Suzu: And my shirukens!

Yakko and Suzu threw their items simultaneously at the Lake monster, who shot a stream of water and redirected the items back at them.

Yakko: Arrrrgggghhhh!
Suzu: Arrrrgggghhhh!

In slow motion, Yakko got hit by the potion and slowly froze. While Suzu's ninja hood got pinned to a tree, her arms flapping uselessly at her side. 

Kaibutsu: Hahahaha!

Cha Cha had to resort to her magic bracelet to get them out of this mess.

Cha Cha: Crescent Aurora Bracelet! Magic Boomerang!

Just then, Seravi and Dorothy arrived with Grandpa. They saw the lake monster. Seravi gave Koun to Dorothy and jumped down from Grandpa's shoulder. He tried to stop Cha Cha.

Dorothy: Be careful Seravi!
Grandpa: Is this the monster Seravi was talking about?
Seravi: Cha Cha. Don't!

But Cha Cha didn't hear Seravi, instead concentrating on what the boomerang brought back with it. It was a bag of cement which was so heavy, Cha Cha struggled to keep it up.

Cha Cha: Wahhhh! What am I supposed to do with this?

The Lake monster shot out a stream of water at Cha Cha, and unable to move the bag of cement, Cha Cha ran away from the spot the Lake monster had aimed. The stream hit the bag, breaking it and the water started mixing with the cement. Cha Cha looked back behind her.

The Lake monster was slowly mixing with the cement and now with the sun so hot in the sky, the monster was slowly being turned into a giant cement blob. The lake monster struggled but failed to break free as the cement slowly mixed with him and he bonded with the magic cement. After a while it was over. The lake monster was no more.

Cha Cha came running up to Seravi. She was teary-eyed.

Cha Cha: Teacher! The monster... is he?

Cha Cha cried. Kaibutsu took the opportunity to stand close to Cha Cha. Seravi sighed.

Seravi: Something made the monster attack, but he was not evil. The most important thing is that you are okay.

The others slowly revived. Yakko ran up to Seravi, her eyes were giant hearts.

Yakko: Oh Seravi, you were so brave. You saved us all.
Elizabeth: But Yakko, Cha Cha defeated the monster.
Cha Cha: Yeah Yakko. I defeated the...

Yakko grabbed Cha Cha by the front of her dress.

Yakko: Now listen here. No one can claim what Seravi did.
Cha Cha: But Yakko...

Yakko slapped Cha Cha across the face multiple times. Dorothy came up to stand beside Seravi. She was carrying both children, one on her back and the other in her arms.

Dorothy: Seravi dear. Was that the monster attacking Cha Cha who we were looking for?

Seravi turned to face Dorothy.

Seravi: No. That was the Guardian of the lake. He wasn't evil, something made him attack. I only wish I knew what...

Seravi looked up at the sky, and the sun that was shining brightly.
