Stonebased Magic
Stones are similiar to materia in that to learn from them you must equip them properly.  Stones are usually found in items and you can use them to gain magic spells or defenses versus status effects.  Ether is required for anyone who utilizes stones a lot, just as it is for materia.  After a considerable amount of game time one can learn the spell or status effect from the stone.  If it is white or black magic, then the character can learn it without having to use the stone further.  If it is a status effect prevention or special attack ability, then the member will have to keep the stone, but does not have to keep the item with the stone.  The stone will have to be equipped on another item that the person uses.  It will also be labeled if you must keep the stone equipped to use the ability later. At this time these items may only be purchased on the lands occupied by FF9 locations/businesses.
