Hints for Newbies
There are tips for helping the people who are new at neopets and/or don't know how to start and what to do. I based all the hints to my own opinion, and if yours is different, I would love to hear it! Feel free to drop me a neomail! ^.^
First
If you just made a new account at neopets, you must activate it with an activation code. If the code is emailed to you, just activate your account and you can start.
There is really much you can do at neopets, but there is a restriction if you don't have a pet. So let's get a pet.
There are 2 ways to get a pet:
1. By creating one.
If you create a pet, you can decide it's spieces, gener, name, color and you can scroll the stats. If you like your pet, click on "Enter Neopia" and you're done.
You can also use the second way to get a pet: by adopting one from the pound.
If you adopt a pet from the pound, there is a huge varity of pets to chose from. But you can't decide what color/gender/name/spieces it has. But you can also be lucky and find a strong/special/painted pet.
It's all up to you what pet you want and how you want to get one. At the pound, you need to pay to adopt a pet, and at the create-a-pet, you get money when creating one. But not so much. :)
What then?
When you got a pet, you can go everywhere at neopets. There is a lot to do, but I suggest you just surf around. Try some links, go explore neopia and the other worlds, etc.
Then, you can play a game. If you go to the games room, there are different ways to find a game. If you know already a name of a game, or a part of it, you can type this in the search bar. But you can also find one by clicking on a picture. What game do you like? You can chose "puzzles", "action", or "luck/chance". There is also a fourth option, a featured game. This one changes after an amound of time.
If you want to play a game to win money fast, you can try "meerca chase", "extreme herder", or "Destruct-O-Match". If you want to get some easy trophies, try "pyramids", "sakhmet sollitaire", "cheat" and "Snow wars", "cellblock" or "Go! Go! Go!". But you can always play an other game you like.
Do's for Newbies
Here is a list of things you should really do if your new to neopets:- Visit the chat boards!
At the chat boards, you can post your problems or read someone else's problems. There are a lot people who visit the chats too and answer your questions and help you out. And if's also a great way to meet new friends!
- Join a guild!
At a guild, you can also make new friends, and they can help you too. If you need help, you can always post it on the message boards and most of the times, you'll get a reply with an answer when someone else is on too. :) And at guilds, most of the times there are costests. There you have chance to win new items!
- Visit the freebies every day.
This is a fast way to make some neopoints.
- Read the news section every day too!
There you can find all updates on new things at neopets, changes and other things. A lot of people don't read the news when they start, and they soon get confused when something new is introduced at neopets. For example: why we can't post any links anymore at the chat board.

Don'ts for Newbies
- NeohomesNeohomes are great fun, but it costs a LOT. First of all, you need to apply for land. This will cost you 1000 or more, depending on where you want to have your home. Then you need to pay for each room you make. And all the extension options cost a lot too, and they will be more and more, the higher the level is.
- A great Battledome Pet
It's good to have a strong pet if you want to fight the battledome. But if you want a strong pet and aren't a big battledome player and a newbie, it's not good for your money. A training will cost a dubloon or codestone (or more, depending on your pet's level) and that's pretty much for a newbie. A codestone for example is around 4700 np, and most of the time, the prices are rising all the time. So to get the RIGHT codestone at the RIGHT TIME, you need to buy or trade a codestone.
But if you DO want to fight much in the battledome, you can always do this :)
- Making your own guild
I've noticed that people who are new at neopets, and don't know much about neopets yet, make a guild that isn't going to be successfull. First of all, what is successful? Is a successful guild a guild with thousands of members, or to have fun members? I say to have a few active members. But if a leader is new to neopets, he/she doesn't know much about the site, so he/she can't help out much. Ofcourse people can make good guilds, but I suggest to join some guild a few times, just to know how everything is going on and stuff.
Daily Freebies!
There are a lot free things on neopets every day, hour or any other time. Here is a list and my opinion about them.
- Coltzan's Shrine.
Gives you money, dubloons, food, level up, stronger attack/defence/speed, or nothing. It is said that at midnight exactly, one person can get 1 milion np! I've never had such thing, but it is really good to visit!!
- Fruit Machine
If you're lucky, you can win food or nps here. And if you are very lucky, you can get: 1 rare non-solid pb + 20000 np + some faeries at once (but this is extremely rare)! You should visit this every day!!
- Tiki Tack Tombola
You can win codestones and faeries here, or other food and some np if you got a winning ticket. Sometimes, you can get a few nps if you haven't won. Here is a bigger chance to win something than at the Fruit Machine. It's really a must!
- Giant Omelette
Get one slice a day! It's very tastfull and you can use a slice 3 times. Don't buy expensive food if your pets like this free omelette too! :D
- The Wheel of Mediocrity
It costs 50 np for a spin. This is what you can get: food, an attack that lowers your pet's hitpoints, 10/20/50/100/200/1000 np, an item. I don't use it very much, because you can't win a lot here. You can only spin every 40 minutes.
- The Wheel of Excitement!
A spin costs 100 np. You can get: the pant devil that steals an item, an attack that lowers your pet's hitpoints, a dark (does nothing) or light faerie blessing (if you active pet has an ability, she'll raise it's level), a disease, mystery prize (under 100 np), healing, item, 100/200/500/1000/2000/10000 np. You can spin every 2 hours, and it is said than if you want the 10k, you need to spin exactly on the hour, e.g. 3.00 am. This is a good wheel, I spin it very much. :)
- The Healing Springs
Is your pet ill? Did you lost some hitpoints? Are your pets hungry? Take them to the healing springs. Every half hour, the water faerie will see what she can do. She can cure every desease, give back all your hitpoints or a few, restore your pets hitpoints and make them not hungry, give you a healing potion or elixer or give a snowball. You must really visit this spring, even if your pets aren't dying or suffering! :)
- Giant Jelly
Want more free food? Get a jelly! Every day, you can pick up one jelly and use it 2 times. They are really tasty and it is good food for every pet. Why buy food if you can get it free? :D
- Christmas Advent Calendar
If it is the month of Celebrating (December), don't forget to visit this one! Every day, you can get some neopoints, items and stuff. Sometimes, it is said that you have a rod of nova or dark nova and when you want to pick it up, something steals it. Don't worry, all the users got the same. They did this last year and the year before too.
Important: It is againts the neopet rules to visit any of these freebies with more accounts. Don't do this, because they can freeze you!
Other
If you got a question at neopets, you should really ask it to somebody!! Then you know it and that might help you at neopets. But then you can also help others who don't know it (yet).I hope that these hints were helpfull to you. Like I said, they are based on my opinion. Yours can be different, but that's ok. I don't say that mine is good and yours bad, nor I say that these are bad and yours are good. :)
