double-event winners for E.O. Smith in it's 107.5 - 41.4
Central Connecticut Conference East Division victory over
Rockville.
Marlena Supina won the pole vault (6-6) while Samantha Binnette,
Melina Benson, Victoria Cowen and Jocelyn Breton were first in
the 4x100 relay.

(shot put), Gretchen Tucker (discus) and Robin Merritt (pole vault) added
first-place finishes.

NEW BRITAIN - Becky Tucker won the shot put as the E.O.
Smith girls track and field team finished fifth in the
CIAC State Open at Willow Brook Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Tucker, the 2000 Class MM champion, had a winning throw
of 38 feet, 8 inches.
Frances Russell was third in the 1,600 meters (5:11) and
fifth in the 3,200 (11:29). Karen Roy finished sixth in
the 1,600 (5:14).
Carly Fraser placed fourth in the high jump (5-0).
"The kids made us proud," E.O. Smith girls track and field
coach Jorge Guerra said. "We had a very good season."
"Becky has been her best in the top meets. I wasn't
surprised she won."
Tucker, Russell, Roy and Fraser qualified for the New
Englands this Saturday in South Portland, Maine.

Becky Tucker was happy to return to the Class MM meet. The E.O.
Smith-Storrs junior won the shot put in the MM meet two years
ago and figured her team returning to that class was a good
omen. Last year, she competed in Class L meet and didn't finish
in the top three.
``I was ready to do well here,'' Tucker said.
She did. She won the shot put with a personal best 39-6,
improving on her previous best of 38-4. She made her winning
throw on her first attempt.
Tucker went on to finish fifth in the discus (104-9).

EAST HARTFORD — Frances Russell was a 3-event winner as E.O.
Smith placed second at the CCC East Girls Track and Field
Championship Meet at East Hartford High Tuesday.
Rockville won the championship with 157 points followed by E.O.
Smith (139). Windham (59) was fourth.
Russell won the 800- (2:23), 1,600- (5:16) and 3,200-meter
events (11:57).
The Panthers used pack running to finish first and second in the
800, first through third in the 1,600 and first through fifth in
the 3,200.
Karen Roy placed second in the 800 (2:25) and 1,600 (5:16) and
third in the 3,200 (12:26).
Katherine Jordan was second in the 3,200 (12:04) followed by
Roy, Caitlin Roston (12:26) and Eliza Pickering (12:28). Sarah
Bishop recorded a third-place finish in the 1,600 (5:34).
Carly Fraser was victorious in the long jump (15-9) and high
jump (5-2). She finished second in the triple jump with a
school-record leap of 34-2.
Becky Tucker won the shot put with a school-record throw of 38-4
and placed second in the discus (108).
The Panthers will compete next Tuesday in the Class MM meet at
Willowbrook Park in New Britain.

ENFIELD — The E.O. Smith girls track and field team won 14-of-15
events to defeat Enrico Fermi, 101-35, in a CCC East tri-meet
Tuesday.
Carly Fraser won the long jump (15-3), triple jump (31-11) and
high jump (5-0).
Becky Tucker (shot put and discus) and Karen Roy (400 and 800
meters) were double winners.
Kara Paglione was victorious in the 100 meters (13.4) and Jana
Popeleski in the 200 (29.6).
