Actor Biographies

Kevin Tighe

Born 13 August 1944, Los Angeles native Kevin Tighe had been acting in guest spots on episodic TV when he got the break of a lifetime: the role of paramedic Roy DeSoto on action-adventure "Emergency!" For nearly seven years, Tighe played the easy-going rescuer in addition to directing several episodes. When "Emergency!" had run its course, Tighe left Los Angeles for New York, where he took some high-powered acting classes with Robert Lewis and Stella Adler and spent many years on and off Broadway, acting in stage productions. He returned to the Hollywood scene with his performance in "Matewan," John Sayles' 1987 film about labor troubles in West Virginia. He has been acting non-stop ever since, remaining active in films, plays and TV. He won the 1993 Genie Award for best supporting actor for an independent Canadian film, "I Love A Man in Uniform". Randolph Mantooth

Born 19 September 1945, in Sacramento, California, the son of a full-blooded Seminole Indian, Randy made his way to Hollywood in 1970 with the intention of becoming an actor. After some brief success in theater, the dark and handsome Mantooth won a player contract with Universal, which led him to a handful of guest roles on shows like "Alias Smith And Jones," "The Virginian" and "Night Gallery." Pleased with his performances, Universal awarded him the role of Johnny Gage on the fast-paced drama, "Emergency!" Forced to cut his hair in compliance with real LA County Fire Department standards, Mantooth added the phrase: "Make room for a long-haired fireman" to his autograph on technical advisor Jim Page's copy of the pilot script. With "Emergency," Randy became a bit of a teen idol, and had a healthy run on the covers of a number of teen magazines. Like Tighe, he also made a move East after "Emergency!", both to do the soap opera "General Hospital" and because the move would put him closer to doing stage work. His career has continued as an actor, and he has appeared in a string of TV guest roles and TV movies, but is perhaps best known, after Emergency!, for his role as top cop Alex Masters on sister-soaps "Loving" and "The City."
