Parkinson (Illustrator) Egyptologists
Collier and Manley use drawings of actual inscriptions displayed in

teaching the writings of the Egyptians to non-specialists. It is
without doubt my top book and the best textbook of its kind and you
will defiantly improve your reading skills after studying it.

better understanding of the ancient language. Nevertheless, his books
are still useful.

artist and historian but does not hold an official Egyptology degree.
However, unlike many dusty academics, he articulates the stories of
ancient people in a unique way and has a rare ability to conjure up the
past in the mind’s eye. He was born in 1941 in Surrey and studied at the
Royal College of Art in London. From 1973 to 1977, he worked as an
artist in epigraphic studies in the temples and tombs of Thebes. In
1977-1979, he originated and organised an excavation of the tomb of
Ramesses XI for the Brooklyn Museum. He has written several acclaimed
books and produced some excellent TV documentaries.
