GENERAL CONDITIONS

ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to singers of all voices and nationalities born after January 1, 1971.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Applicants should use the official application form or a copy of this. The application shall include the following material which will not be returned:

1. A recent demo-tape or CD. (DAT or minidisk will not be accepted.) The recording must have good sound quality. The repertoire shall include two operatic arias of contrasting styles with piano accompaniment. (not orchestra) Total length approx. 10 minutes.
2. The recording must be certified for accuracy by a qualified person as a teacher or audio engineer.
3. Two black-and-white photographs of good quality with the applicant's name written on the back.
4. A certified copy of the applicant's birth certificate. (stamped)
5. A certified copy of passport. (stamped)
6. Curriculum vitae
7. A receipt of the transaction of NOK 400,-

In order for the application to be valid, a fee in the amount of NOK 400,- must be credited directly to the competition's bank account: The Queen Sonja International Music Competition, Den norske Bank, Oslo Account no. 7056 05 15 330 (SWIFT code DNBANOKK) The entire amount must be deposited in the competition's bank account by the application deadline and will not be refunded. NB! The competition will not accept cheques.

Incomplete applications may be rejected by the Board of Directors. Applications including all enclosures must reach contest officials by
15 Mach 2003

SCREENING PROCEDURE
Applications with demo-tapes will be evaluated by a national screening committee.

ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICANTS
Successful applicants will be notified before end of May 2003. Applicants must then confirm their participation by transferring NOK 800,-to the competition's bank account whereupon they automatically become official contestants. Half of the amount will be refunded on the contestant's arrival in Oslo.

ACCOMMODATION
Contestants are offered free hotel accommodation for as long as they are in the competition.

FLIGHTS
The competition has made a favourable arrange- ment with Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS). If you buy an economy-class ticket from SAS (round-trip), they will be flexible as to the date for your return trip. While you are in Oslo, SAS can re-schedule your return trip (SK-flights) depending on how long you remain in the competition, or how long you wish to stay in Oslo. Please note that this favour can only be arranged trough the competition's secretariat and the SAS office in Oslo.

PRACTICE FACILITIES
The organizers will provide all contestants practice facilities at the Norwegian Academy of Music.

ACCOMPANISTS
Accompanists will be provided by the organizers for participants in the preliminaries and semi- finals. Contestants who wish may bring their own accompanists, but at their own expense.

RECORDING
The Queen Sonja International Music Competition reserves the right to authorize - and holds the copyright to - all sound and visual recordings of the competition. Any income from the recordings will accrue to the competition.
