Brief Biography
Kevin Martin skipped the Canadian team at the World Championships in 1991 and 1997. At the 1991 World Championships in Winnipeg, Canada, his team included Kevin Park at third, Dan Petryk at second and Don Bartlett at lead. The team rolled through the round-robin portion of the tournament with a perfect 9-0 record, then defeated Norway 5-3 in the semifinals to set up a meeting with the Scottish team skipped by David Smith in the final. Martin's team had defeated the Scots 8-5 in round-robin play. But in the final, Scotland hammered Canada 7-2. The next year, Martin's rink represented Canada at the Albertville Winter Games, in which curling was a demonstration sport. Team Canada finished fourth at the Olympics, losing to eventual champion Switzerland 8-4 in the semifinals. Martin returned to the World Championships five years later, this time with Don Walchuk as his third, Rudy Ramcharan playing second and Bartlett still at lead. The Canadians finished fourth at the competition in Bern, Switzerland, falling to Peter Lindholm's Swedish team 6-4 in the semifinals and then losing to Hammy McMillan's Scottish team 8-4 in the bronze medal game. It was only the fourth time since 1968 that Canada failed to win a medal at the men's World Championships.
