  1. Featured Collage Idea Quick Laminated Bookmark

    Dream Bookmark
Another easy bookmark idea is featured this season. Very quick to compose and fun to give! Mark your place with these small slices of art, or wrap them up with your next gift of a book.

Supplies: Avery brand self-laminating tags; black permanent marker; scissors; decorative edge scissors (optional); glue stick; coordinating silk ribbon; images from magazines

    blank tag
    (blank tag with gridlines)

    Preparation:

Basically to create these bookmarks, you will be sandwiching flat images and papers between the sticky laminate and the cardstock background. You will leave the edges of the cardstock free so that the laminate will seal them all in. The Avery tags have a grid-like background that can be seen around the edges so you will either have to glue paper to the edge securely, or use a black marker to outline the tag.

Arrange images on the card, glue in place with glue stick, let dry. Cover any open areas (which show grid lines) with black permanent marker or other opaque color. Peel the protective backing from off of the laminate portion of the tage and press securely - from the center out to the edges do that air does not get trapped in your collage sandwich.

Lace a ribbon through the pre-punched hole and Viola! A bookmark.

Please note: Along with all the other original ideas here at Creative Inspriations! this idea is copyrighted by Laurie Early.

    * Céline Trabuc A quick to view gallery site of artist Céline Trabuc who grew up in southern France "surrounded by sunshine [and] the sea…. Her collages are simple pieces of paper torn from magazines and glued onto cardboard. Céline creates the images wholly from her imagination, gaining inspiration from the natural world around her."

    * David Mach There is so much to look at here! Through the unique juxtaposition of images, the collages at this site seem to create new landscapes and capture surreal modern events. The "Collage Work" is listed under "Work Categories" and there is much more than collage at this site. Wow!

    * Collage Techniques : A Guide for Artists and Illustrators by Gerald F. Brommer
This is an Arts and Crafts Editor's Recommended Book, 11/15/97: "Rather than a project-driven craft book, Collage Techniques is an exciting presentation of the medium as a fine art. From the famous practitioners (Matisse, Picasso, Hockney) to the many accomplished artists represented throughout the book, the images are stunning, sometimes startling. A thorough coverage of materials, supplies, and basic methods lays the groundwork of the first section; chapters then focus on various types of papers, fibers, photographs, and technologically enhanced imagery that can be incorporated. The second section explores design considerations for various subjects (still lifes, landscapes, human figures, social commentary, abstract imagery, three-dimensional works). There are no step-by-step objects here, but instead an amazing collection of work that utilizes collage by bringing together painting and sculpture and provides colorful, inventive, thought-provoking inspiration for experimenting with the medium. "

    * Creative Collage Techniques by Nita Leland, Virginia Lee Williams
From Booklist , 10/15/94: "Collage is a versatile and dynamic medium suitable for artists with any level of skill and experience. Collage can be spontaneous and inexpensive when artists use materials at hand, such as magazines or newspapers, or collage can involve elaborate designs, precise detail, and exquisite craftsmanship. Materials suitable for collage are limited only by the creator's imagination and include papers of all kinds, fabric, photographs, and three-dimensional objects. Media such as watercolor, ink, and acrylics can be used to create varied effects and textures. Instructor, artist, and author Leland and her collage-artist coauthor Williams provide readers with step-by-step instructions for increasingly sophisticated collage techniques. Charts highlight recommended materials such as adhesives, protective coatings, types of paper, and supports. Numerous examples of finished collages are displayed in color reproductions, from homey family projects to beautifully textured abstractions. While Leland and Williams excel at covering technique and practical concerns, they spend some time discussing design principles and the matching of materials to subject or theme. This is as comprehensive and useful as a how-to on collage can be." Copyrightc 1994, American Library Association. All rights reserved
