Writing the Letter v
. There aren't
too many "rules" to writing fan mail, it's basically just whatever you'd
like to say, but here are a couple pointers you should keep in mind:
-
Keep it short, no one has time to read a novel.
-
I know this is obvious, but if you want an autograph back, don't insult
them... complements will work a lot better.
-
Make sure that your full name and address (and any other contact info you
want to include) are written/typed clearly on the letter, in an easy
to find spot. You also might want to include an extra index card
with that information on it, just to be sure.
-
Most serious autograph collectors always include a S.A.S.E. (self-addressed
stamped envelope. Those big manila
ones work best. You'll increase your chances of getting a response,
and how fast you'll get it. I have to admit that I don't always do this, but it's definitely a good idea.
-
Always include your return address on the main envelope so that if the
address is outdated, the letter will be returned to you, and you can notify whoever gave you that address.
