MOMMAS WOODSTOVE STEW

You are listening to Rosin The Bow!

Makes me think of those country nights with grandpaw playing the fiddle!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who enjoys a nice roaring fire banked down overnight in the old woodstove. I know all my critters seem to be laying so close to it that it's a wonder their fur ain't all burnt offin them when they git up!!

Well...quite a few years back I was cleaning out the refrigerator and came out with lots of little containers of vegies, gravies, hunks of meat, potatoes....well, y'all must have all them little containers too so you get the picture.

I JUST COULDN'T BRING MYSELF TO THROW THEM OUT CAUSE MY MAW TAUGHT ME TO BE FRUGAL

They were only a day or so old and just not enough to feed hubby and I for a meal...so, I threw em in a pot...stew goes a lot further you know.

Well, it was kind of late at night and I twarnt a gonna spend all night up just a'stirring up that pot of stew...so

I STUCK IT ON THE WOODSTOVE!!!

NEXT MORNING.....I checked that pot of stew only to find the durn thing cooked down to an odd looking mush of stuff that I knew darn well MY HUBBY wouldn't eat.

As I was about to throw the mess out, I took a whiff of it and it smelled DELICIOUS!!

After staring at it for awhile it durn near came to me in a flash that it even kind of looked like that store-bought fancy canned dog food they sell in those fancy supermarkets in the city! So, not being a wasteful type of person (I already told you about maw), I decided to spoon it over the dogs dry food at breakfast.

WELL LET ME TELL YOU, THOSE DOGS THOUGHT THEY HAD DINED AT THE RITZ!!

From that point on I have always kept a pot on the back woodstove in the winter months. I add all my scraps from the evenings dinner, and often a bit of barley or rice to bulk it up a bit..sometimes some garlic cause I read a book once that said dogs love garlic..but the dogs just LOVE IT and can't wait till the woodstove starts going so they can eat
