Appropriate funding is critical for students who are deaf-blind as costs surrounding communication and language supports can be significant.  As well, attendance requirements for some financial aid programs may prove problematic for you as even one course may be a significant load.

There are a number of funding systems that students need to consider.  Options available include the British Columbia Student Assistance Program, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Canada Study Grant and the Canada Student Loan Program.

There are numerous places you can check out to secure funding.  You need to check your college, institute or university regarding scholarships and bursaries specific to each school.  Here are some funding resources that are geared for students who are deaf-blind.

• Canadian National Society of the Deaf Blind runs a charity bingo that can offer support to members.  The total amount that you can apply for in one year is $1000.00 and is to be used for technical aids, intervenors and other necessary equipment.  For further information link to CNSDB.  You can also send an email to CNSDB to get more information.
• CNIB has various scholarships and funding sources that you can check out.  One for students just finishing high school and considering entering post secondary institutions is the Wayne and Walter Gretzky Scholarship Foundation for the Blind Youth of Canada.  All applicants must be in their last year of high school and going into their first year of post-secondary.  Link to this site for more help.
